Operations is essential for materials handling and product distribution within a distribution or manufacturing setting. This encompasses warehousing and fulfillment of materials and products, transportation, inventory management, as well as demand, supply, and manufacturing planning. Warehouse Operations is tasked with executing a combination of manual and automated processes vital for the receipt, storage, and shipment of products. This includes receiving, picking, packing, shipping, staging, transporting, storage, and delivery, ensuring an efficient product flow from the point of receipt from vendors to shipment to both internal and external customers.
Job Summary
The Supervisor of Warehouse Operations oversees a team of Inbound and Outbound Associates, ensuring that pick, pack, and ship operations (Outbound) or receiving, replenishment, put away, and returns (Inbound) are conducted safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards. Responsible for managing either first or second shift operations, the Supervisor actively monitors efficiency and quality metrics, delegates tasks, provides coaching to team members, and addresses operational issues. This role directly supports Cardinal Health’s commitment to exemplary customer service by ensuring timely and high-quality shipments, while also nurturing the Warehouse Operations talent pool and promoting operational excellence.
About the Consumer Health Logistics Center
The Consumer Health Logistics Center (CHLC) represents Cardinal Health’s latest Pharmaceutical Supply Chain operation, located in Groveport, Ohio. Spanning approximately 350,000 square feet and equipped with advanced automation technology, this facility marks a significant investment in the efficiency and effectiveness of our supply chain.
Location/Shift
– This position is on-site, requiring five days per week engagement at the Consumer Health Logistics Center.
– Second Shift: Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM.
Responsibilities
– Recruit, select, train, manage, and evaluate a team of warehouse associates to guarantee timely product distribution and receipt, while motivating employees to meet established productivity and quality standards—including cycle times, lines per hour, shortages, damaged units, missed dispatches, and missed scans.
– Monitor site productivity standards and hold associates accountable for performance against daily, weekly, and monthly metrics. Provide timely feedback and initiate corrective action as necessary.
– Participate in continuous improvement projects and initiatives (e.g., Gemba walks, Kaizen workshops, takt boards).
– Schedule workforce daily to ensure adequate staffing for product selection, replenishment, restocking, location, and shipping in a cost-effective manner.
– Coordinate equipment maintenance, overseeing preventive maintenance and all necessary repairs.
– Engage in employee development through training, coaching, counseling, and performance evaluations.
– Prepare ad hoc reports as required, utilizing Excel or other necessary programs.
– Ensure adherence to safety protocols, holding staff accountable while enforcing Cardinal Health’s compliance with OSHA, DEA, FDA, and state and local regulations.
– Act as the primary facility contact for Quality Risk Assessment (QRA) compliance, assisting with audits and addressing non-conformance issues.
– Conduct Job Safety Observations (JSO), properly record and manage safety incidents, and monitor employee safety behaviors and practices, providing ongoing feedback.
– Foster team cohesion by creating opportunities for employee growth and development.
– Promote innovation, simplification, and standardization across existing solutions, operating procedures, methodologies, and processes.
Qualifications
– High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience preferred.
– 2-3 years of relevant experience is preferred.
– Familiarity with continuous improvement projects and initiatives is preferred.
– Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
– Previous experience leading a team is preferred.
– Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, including Pivot Tables and spreadsheets.
– Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (e.g., Manhattan) is preferred.
– Ability to recruit a team and hold individuals accountable for results.
– Capacity to learn and execute activities within warehouse and inventory management systems.
– Understanding of Lean Six Sigma principles and their connection to product flow.
