Job description:
This full-time position offers a fixed schedule designed for ease of management and an enhanced work-life balance. The hours of operation are from Tuesday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday to Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This role is an excellent opportunity for those seeking reliable, full-time employment.
The successful candidate will perform a wide array of duties related to the general servicing of aircraft, including fueling, parking, towing, and moving aircraft, while delivering exceptional service to crew members, passengers, and clients utilizing St. Clair County International Airport. Responsibilities also involve general custodial and maintenance work to ensure the cleanliness, repair, and upkeep of airport buildings, runways, and grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct fueling and de-icing of aircraft as necessary.
- Greet and assist in parking, towing, moving, and marshaling aircraft arriving at or departing from the airfield.
- Process payment transactions using a point-of-sale system and accurately track aircraft fueling, payments, and cash drawer activities.
- Manage incoming phone calls and transfer them appropriately.
- Adhere to all aviation safety regulations and protocols.
- Perform regular quality assurance checks on fuel delivery systems as per the schedule (daily/monthly/quarterly/annual).
- Assist passengers and crew with baggage and cargo handling.
- Provide professional service, including assistance with hotel, car, and other travel reservations.
- Coordinate catering orders with restaurants and confirm arrangements.
- Undertake wing-walking duties during aircraft movements.
- Perform cleaning tasks, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, waxing, and maintaining restroom facilities.
- Wash and maintain windows, walls, and woodwork, as well as manage waste disposal.
- Operate maintenance and custodial equipment and tools.
- Complete minor electrical, plumbing, and carpentry maintenance tasks.
- Maintain records and reports as required.
- Conduct daily inspections and maintenance of airport properties.
- Carry out lawn care, which may include mowing and watering grass.
- Engage in airfield operations and maintenance activities related to both the airfield and buildings.
- Respond to accidents and incidents involving aircraft.
- Ensure the airfield maintains safe operating conditions.
- Operate heavy equipment for snow removal and turf mowing when needed.
- Assist the director in the daily administrative and operational management of the airport and its resources.
- Aid in maintaining compliance with DEQ Stormwater prevention plans, DNR wildlife control permits, and DEQ environmental regulations.
- Support enforcement of the St. Clair County International Airport Zoning Ordinance.
- Analyze fuel sales, volumes, and inventory data as necessary.
- May act as backup to the Director for payroll processing.
- Manage snow removal operations during adverse weather conditions and coordinate responses to weather-related challenges, including communication with the FAA Flight Service Station and airport tenants.
- Be available for snow removal and airport emergencies 24/7 on an on-call basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received:
This position reports directly to the Airport Director.
Experience, Skills, Education:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- General maintenance experience and heavy equipment operation skills are essential.
- Previous experience in airport operations and/or aviation is preferred but not mandatory.
- Certification in Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and CPR is required.
- Familiarity with basic firefighting techniques is essential.
- Reasonable knowledge of and experience with the materials and equipment utilized in airfield, building, and grounds maintenance is required.
- Strong electrical knowledge, along with reasonable plumbing, carpentry, and heavy equipment repair skills, is necessary.
- Understanding of airfield safety standards and airfield maintenance principles is vital.
- Ability to remain composed under pressure is essential.
- Proficient in writing, reading, and basic mathematical principles; adept with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook; capable of exercising sound judgment and decision-making in accordance with established policies; able to research and solve problems independently; familiar with county operations; skilled in prioritization and time management; capable of handling stressful situations while providing effective and friendly customer service; able to support the County’s mission and values; and skilled in critical thinking when required.

Conditions of Employment:

- Completion of aviation competence education training within the first 30 days of employment is mandatory.
- A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement is required and must be retained throughout employment.
- MDOT DEQ Industrial Storm Water Certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
- Possession of valid CPR, first aid, and AED certifications, or completion of training within 90 days of employment is necessary.
