Job description:

Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and awareness of drug interactions. Delivers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures the accurate compounding, review, dispensing, and verification of prescribed medications in accordance with regulatory guidelines and company policies. Manages a streamlined pharmacy workflow, enhances financial performance, optimizes inventory management, and improves the overall patient experience. Oversees pharmacy staff performance and engagement, ensuring their professional development through training, targeted coaching, and structured performance management initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

Patient Experience

  • Engages patients by greeting them warmly and providing assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues promptly and answers inquiries to ensure a positive experience.
  • Demonstrates and communicates customer service best practices with the team, creating a distinctive and joyful patient experience. This includes interpersonal skills such as greeting, maintaining eye contact, and exhibiting courtesy, alongside Walgreens service attributes such as curiosity, proactive assistance, and championing empathy and inclusivity.
  • Connects with patients by anticipating their needs and proactively promoting services. Leads initiatives to enhance the patient experience, increasing awareness of healthcare services offered by Walgreens, such as medication management and clinical services like immunizations and diagnostic testing, thus transitioning the pharmacy’s role from transactional to relational.
  • Participates in community events that reflect the unique demographics served, as requested by management.

Operations

  • Collaborates with the Store Manager to identify and create new strategic business opportunities.
  • Maintains proficiency in pharmacy technology systems covering workflow, prescription fulfillment, billing, clinical documentation, and inventory management, supporting both staff and patients in utilizing these technologies effectively.
  • Ensures accurate processing of insurance claims to prevent rejections, addressing patient concerns through collaboration with insurance companies and healthcare providers, including participation in third-party audits.
  • Follows up with medical providers to clarify prescription details and address any issues regarding dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies. Performs clinical and wellness services, including immunizations and disease state management.
  • Partners with centralized support teams for patient registration and issue resolution, and conducts virtual product reviews in line with company protocols.
  • Manages the pharmacy’s maintenance and housekeeping standards, overseeing repairs, cleanliness, and layout improvements to ensure a functional and presentable environment.
  • Prepares all necessary records and reports mandated by state and federal laws to maintain pharmacy operations, including operating statements and performance indicators.

People & Performance Management

  • Works closely with the Store Manager on pharmacy staff recruitment, addressing disciplinary measures as necessary, and ensuring compliance with employment regulations.
  • Collaborates with management to set performance expectations and team goals, fostering teamwork and a unified vision. Recognizes staff improvements through rewards programs and conducts formal performance evaluations to manage staff effectiveness.
  • Identifies high-potential team members and collaborates on career progression initiatives.

Business Planning

External Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited institution.
  • Current pharmacist licensure in the applicable states within the district.
  • Certified Immunizer or willing to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Minimum of one year of pharmacy experience, encompassing prescription fulfillment, recordkeeping, compliance, pharmacy operations, software systems, and insurance billing.
  • Demonstrated experience in prescription dispensing, showcasing a robust understanding of applicable controlled substance laws.
  • For internal candidates, maintain an average performance rating of at least 3.0 on leadership behaviors and no written disciplinary actions within the previous year.
