Manager of Greenhouse

Under administrative direction, the Manager of Greenhouse oversees operations within the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Properties. This role includes establishing and implementing section policies and procedures, monitoring daily operations, and coordinating various activities. Responsibilities also encompass managing public and media relations, responding to public inquiries and concerns, preparing and administering operating and capital budgets, and generating administrative reports. The manager evaluates the performance of team members and outside contractors while enforcing relevant ordinances and undertaking other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED, along with a Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Forestry, or a related field from an accredited four-year institution. A minimum of five years of full-time paid experience in grounds maintenance or a related field is required, with at least three years in a supervisory capacity. One year of experience may be substituted for each year of college education not completed. This position also encompasses overseeing the facility management of the greenhouse and related park structures, ensuring all buildings and infrastructure are maintained in a safe, clean, and functional state. The role includes program development, creating and coordinating educational, community, and volunteer initiatives to enhance public engagement with the greenhouse and gardens. Event space management, involving the coordination of public and private events held at the greenhouse and surrounding grounds, is a key component of this role.

Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of full-time experience in horticultural operations, with significant emphasis on staff supervision, hiring, and training.
