Job Summary
Under long-range administrative direction, the Environmental Coordinator Senior will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures, and strategic goals within the assigned region, plant, and project scope. Key responsibilities include delivering training, guidance, and support to business unit leadership and staff on applicable environmental requirements, identifying relevant environmental regulations associated with Company assets and projects, and collaborating with business unit staff, Environmental Services representatives, contractors, and external parties to ensure compliance.

The ideal candidate should have a proficient understanding of several environmental programs, including but not limited to:

  • Aboveground and underground storage tanks
  • Transportation of hazardous materials
  • Solid and hazardous waste management
  • Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures
  • Wastewater, storm water, groundwater, and drinking water monitoring, reporting, and control
  • Oil and chemical spill response and management
  • Air emissions monitoring, control, and reporting
  • Asbestos and PCB management
  • Pollution prevention
  • Environmental site assessments
  • Emergency planning and community right-to-know

Key competencies for this position include technical expertise, planning and organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, effective written and oral communication, and a strong sense of initiative. The successful candidate must be capable of working autonomously with limited supervision.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Coordinate and implement all environmental activities and policies in the assigned regions to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and Company policies, standards, and strategic goals. Assist and provide input to Environmental Services in developing Company environmental policies and procedures while communicating any deviations appropriately.

  2. Provide training, instruction, and assistance regarding the implementation of environmental requirements, and assist in developing environmental training materials.

  3. Offer support in the event of a release or discharge of a regulated substance, including making necessary agency notifications, arranging for contractor support, directing cleanup efforts as needed, and completing follow-up reports with regulatory agencies.

  4. Promote and enforce safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the general public, and Company facilities.

  5. Provide support during environmental compliance reviews, Phase I or II environmental site assessments, and remediation projects.

  6. Coordinate and respond to public inquiries regarding environmental matters and effectively communicate compliance issues to appropriate internal parties.

  7. Develop and maintain environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.

  8. Conduct environmental reviews of regional disposal contractors and related facilities, managing contracts associated with Environmental Services.

Education Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, science, or related discipline is required, or an associate degree with relevant experience.

Experience:
Candidates should possess a minimum of eight years of environmental experience with an associate degree or six years with a bachelor’s degree.

Licenses/Certifications:
A valid driver’s license is required.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands of this position range from sedentary to light duty. Proficiency in the competencies of the environmental programs outlined above is essential.

Travel Requirement:
Travel may range from 20% to 40%, including occasional overnight stays.

On-Call Availability:
Candidates must be accessible by phone after work hours and on weekends, though the frequency is minimal.
