Working/Functional Title: Starbucks Store Assistant

Position Summary:
The Starbucks Store Assistant will play a vital role in supporting and overseeing student employees in the execution of various Barista functions, adhering to established Starbucks standards and policies. This position entails comprehensive responsibilities, including facilitating Barista certification training, mastering over 100 food and beverage codes and recipes, ensuring proper maintenance of brand-specific equipment, managing retail and food orders through multiple vendors, and maintaining frozen and dry inventory. Additionally, the Assistant will float between the Library and the 1855 Starbucks locations based on operational demands.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Craft unique, hand-made beverages and food items in a fast-paced customer service environment.
  • Assist in the training, onboarding, and certification processes for new Baristas.
  • Lead and guide fellow Baristas in accordance with Starbucks Training Guidelines.
  • Operate and maintain the cash register, handling cash, credit, Combo Exchange, and Starbucks gift cards.
  • Collaborate on daily inventory management and ordering from various vendors to meet store demands effectively.

All positions within SLE are classified as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or operational suspension due to inclement weather or other emergency conditions, employees in this role are expected to make every reasonable effort to report to work as scheduled. Employees with approved remote work agreements may be required to work on-site to serve the MSU community during such occurrences.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of food ingredients and appropriate preparation and serving techniques is essential.
  • A minimum of one-year satisfactory experience in a food-related environment, or a combination of relevant education and experience, is preferred.
  • Flexibility in work shift is required.
  • Adherence to hygiene standards in line with sanitation regulations is mandatory.
  • Ability to occasionally lift weights ranging from 26 to 75 pounds.
