Job Summary
The role focuses on managing social and local corporate catering opportunities that exceed the capacity of the Group Sales teams within the Sales Office, specifically those catering to events of 150 guests or more. This position is responsible for contracting and closing local catering and social business, ensuring that all transactions are transitioned smoothly and promptly to guarantee exceptional service delivery. The candidate will strive to achieve catering revenue targets by actively upselling each business opportunity to enhance overall income. The position entails implementing the brand’s service strategy and associated initiatives throughout the sales process, while fostering customer loyalty by consistently delivering outstanding service experiences.
Candidate Profile
Education and Experience
Required:
- High school diploma or GED, complemented by a minimum of 2 years of experience in sales and marketing, guest services, or a related field.
OR - An associate degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related major, with no prior work experience required.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in catering sales.
Core Work Activities
Managing Sales Activities
- Manage social and local corporate catering opportunities that fall outside the parameters of the Group Sales teams, directly engaging with clients for events with 150 covers or more.
- Oversee sales efforts for both local corporate and social catering for the property.
- Respond to incoming catering inquiries, identifying, qualifying, and soliciting new catering business to meet personal and property revenue objectives.
- Solicit business associated with citywide events from an approved affiliate list provided by the Citywide Sales Executive.
- Analyze overall market conditions—including competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, and supply and demand—and strategize accordingly.
- Secure optimal catering opportunities for the property, aligned with market conditions and property needs.
- Utilize negotiation skills and creative sales techniques to finalize contracts and secure business.
- Collaborate with the management team to devise and execute a comprehensive catering sales plan, focusing on revenue, customer engagement, and market dynamics.
- Design, develop, and promote innovative catered events while maximizing revenue through upselling packages and creative food and beverage options.
- Manage catering sales revenue and operational budgets, providing accurate forecasting reports.
- Create appealing menus that encourage sales.
- Support the marketing and implementation of catering promotions effectively.
- Uphold and implement Marriott’s Customer Service Standards and Brand Standards throughout all operations.
- Oversee operational aspects of booked business, including generating proposals, writing contracts, and managing customer correspondence.
- Engage in daily service practices consistent with brand standards such as the Marriott Hotel and Resorts Spirit to Serve Daily Basics.
- Ensure seamless transitions between sales and operations while maintaining high service levels.
- Monitor the effective resolution of guest issues related to the sales process by establishing channels for communication with property leadership and relevant stakeholders.
- Assess performance by tracking revenue growth, expense control, and return on investment for the owner and Marriott International.
- Close local catering and social business and confirm proper turnover for quality service delivery.
- Drive customer loyalty and achieve catering revenue goals through effective upselling tactics.
Building Successful Relationships
- Collaborate with off-property sales channels (e.g., Group Sales within the Sales Office, Area Sales, Enterprise Sales Team) to ensure coordinated and non-duplicative efforts.
- Maintain effective interactions with sales teams, kitchen staff, vendors, competitors, local community members, catering associations, and other hotel departments to uphold guest satisfaction.
- Deliver exemplary customer service, ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty by assisting clients and monitoring their experiences throughout their program or event.
- Serve customers by understanding their unique needs and recommending features and services that exceed their expectations, all while building rapport and loyalty to Marriott.
- Develop a deep understanding of the property’s primary target customer and their service expectations, working closely with operational teams to execute strategies effectively.
The hourly pay range for this position is $25.96 to $32.21.
