AI Pay Analysis: To analyze the competitiveness of the hourly rate for the “KOHA RDH Ionia County” role in Ionia, MI, it’s important to first establish the context of the role. Registered Dental Hygienists (RDHs) typically earn between $30 to $45 per hour depending on factors such as experience, education, and local demand. In Michigan, average hourly rates for RDHs can often hover around $35 to $40. If the offered rate is within or above this range, it would be considered competitive and in line with industry standards for the region. Conversely, if the rate is significantly lower, it may not attract qualified candidates. Thus, evaluating the specific hourly rate against these benchmarks will determine its competitiveness in the local market.

Job description:

This position entails a hybrid role, requiring the individual to allocate time and responsibilities across two distinct functions. When providing hygiene care to dental patients within an MCDC dental center, the individual will report primarily to the center’s Office Manager. The successful candidate will assist in all facets of the KOHA program, contributing to the development and execution of a comprehensive project plan that includes measurable metrics. As a Dental Hygienist, key responsibilities will encompass a wide array of tasks associated with the assessment and treatment of oral and periodontal diseases. This role includes supporting the dentist in documenting the patient’s current clinical conditions and recommending treatments necessary for providing optimal clinical care, alongside assisting Dental Assistants and Front Desk staff as required.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to create an outreach strategy aimed at informing schools, daycare facilities, and families about the KOHA program, and provide a copy of this plan to health department partners.
  • Disseminate information about the KOHA program to schools, community-based organizations, local dentists, and families.
  • Conduct and offer oral health assessments at scheduled sessions within various school and community-based locations.
  • Ensure all oral assessments are conducted in strict adherence to applicable safety and infection control standards.
  • Manage data collection, input, and analysis related to assessments, including daily, monthly, and annual statistics; feedback from community stakeholders; and outreach/event activity data.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for review by supervisors and relevant personnel.
  • Provide referral information regarding treatment options for dental issues identified during assessments.
  • Assist in expanding referral networks, coordinate quarterly in-service training for staff and clinicians, and engage with both traditional and non-traditional community organizations.
  • Advise supervisors on opportunities related to advocacy, communication, budget considerations, documentation, reporting procedures, and legal and ethical matters relevant to the program’s objectives.
  • Ensure project activities align with established strategies and budgets.
  • Maintain a thorough record of all project-related paperwork and ensure promotional materials and supplies are appropriately documented and stored.
  • Prepare summaries of time spent on KOHA tasks as requested by supervisors.
  • Perform prophylactic procedures, root planing, and apply sealants.
  • Update patient health histories and all necessary documentation.
  • Conduct dental charting, including existing restorations, missing teeth, and annual periodontal evaluations.
  • Facilitate the placement of subgingival medicaments when available.
  • Obtain patient vital signs, x-rays, and impressions, and create diagnostic models.
  • Present initial findings and recommend periodontal treatments.
  • Address patient inquiries regarding necessary treatments with confidence.
  • Document treatment plans and recare schedules in patient charts.
  • Disinfect the operatory and sterilize instruments.
  • Assist the Dentist, Dental Assistants, and Front Desk staff as required.
  • Provide oral hygiene instructions and demonstrations to patients.
  • Polish dental restorations.
  • Aid in the triage and treatment of emergency cases.
  • Administer local anesthetics as necessary.
  • Oversee inventory management and ordering of supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software programs.
  • Maintain professionalism and effectiveness under pressure and changing conditions.
  • Adapt quickly to new tasks and job demands.
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills while maintaining a friendly demeanor.
  • Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines despite interruptions.
  • Work independently as needed.
  • Skilled in hand scaling and polishing techniques.
  • Familiarity with intra-oral cameras, plasma arc curing lights, electronic blood pressure cuffs, ultrasonic scalers, autoclaves, and radiographic equipment.

Job Specification:
