Job description:

HEALTH AND WELLNESS DEPARTMENT
NUTRITIONIST

The role of the Nutritionist involves providing Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) services while executing certification procedures in alignment with the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) WIC Division policies and protocols. Responsibilities include conducting WIC certifications and recertifications, delivering personalized nutrition education to WIC participants, and referring high-risk individuals to a Registered Dietitian. Additionally, the position entails making referrals to supportive health services and relevant agencies as necessary, engaging in outreach activities, and maintaining accurate WIC files along with required program logs and reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (note that other duties may be assigned):

  • Proficiently utilize computer systems and software for data entry and management.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills while managing extensive and intricate caseloads.
  • Communicate effectively, both in written form and orally.
  • Analyze data sources and interpret information to inform recommendations that promote program success.
  • Oversee assigned chart audits and reports as designated by the team lead or program manager.
  • Participate in all required training sessions.
  • Engage in workgroups focused on addressing specific health issues.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of clinic supplies.
  • Participate in Emergency Preparedness exercises as mandated for the role.
  • Respond to public health emergencies, including undertaking duties not typically associated with the primary role.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Community Nutrition; or certification as a Dietetic Technician.
  • A Master’s Degree in nutrition, public health, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in dietetics, food science, food preparation, menu planning, and budgeting is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetics Registration.
  • At least one year of experience in WIC services.

Equivalency:
Combination of education and experience may be considered as substitutes for the defined educational and experiential requirements.
