GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, you will perform accurate and efficient diagnostic examinations in all areas of general radiology. Radiology technologists are expected to exhibit strong clinical skills and provide high-quality images for interpretation. You will apply principles of radiation protection and adhere to regulations while taking responsibility for your designated area and providing clinical instruction as needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Perform quality diagnostic exams following verification of patient identification and physician orders.
• Acquire and document accurate patient histories in medical records.
• Monitor patients during procedures to ensure safety.
• Conduct radiographic and related patient care procedures using age-appropriate methods tailored to each patient’s physical capabilities.
• Ensure that STAT requests are communicated to the radiologist promptly.
• Communicate effectively within the department as well as with customer service, administrative staff, medical staff, and peers.
• Proficiently operate diagnostic imaging equipment and follow established protocols for equipment malfunctions or quality control issues.
• Utilize ALARA standards to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and yourself.
• Provide procedural information and education to patients and their families prior to each exam.
• Contribute positively to departmental operations by assisting colleagues and adhering to quality assurance and quality control standards.
• Accurately and efficiently utilize hospital computer systems for order verification, schedule viewing, and transmitting information to PACS.
• Assist in the training of students and new hires.
• Ensure that equipment is disinfected between patients and that exam rooms are clean and sufficiently stocked with linens and supplies.
• Maintain competency in all assigned areas, including but not limited to fluoroscopy, general diagnostics, orthopedics, and operating procedures.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Training:

• Graduate from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited Radiography program.
• Must obtain registration within six months of the hire date.

Work Experience:

• Training obtained at the student level is required.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

• Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; Must maintain good standing with the ARRT.

Other Qualifications:

• Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers from The American Heart Association and/or The American Red Cross at the time of hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Effort:

• Position requires the ability to frequently push/pull objects weighing up to 30 lbs. with assistance; occasionally lift objects exceeding 50 lbs. with assistance, and frequently lift up to 40 lbs.
• The role necessitates constant performance of simple motor skills, such as standing and walking, as well as moderate tasks, like positioning patients.
• Requires constant gross body coordination and frequent tasks requiring hand-eye coordination, such as specimen collection.
• Employees must be able to constantly walk, stand, and occasionally sit for extended periods; frequent bending may be required when attending to patients in bed.
• Ability to see both far and near distances is essential for driving and using computer screens.
• The position requires acute auditory perception to hear normal sounds amidst background noise, such as phone or intercom ringing and equipment alarms.

Work Environment:

• Frequent exposure to ionizing radiation; potential exposure to hazardous materials, including blood, body tissues, or fluids, dust, and various chemical hazards.
