Job description:
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is available from December 2024 through May 2025, requiring an average commitment of 20 hours per week, which may include evenings and weekends as determined by the college.
CLASSIFICATION: Student Worker
BENEFITS: The Resident Assistant will receive complimentary housing, along with an annual stipend of $1,000 to be allocated toward a meal plan.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt

The Resident Assistant (RA) position is a live-in role within the SC4 Housing Residential Staff that provides mentorship to residents. RAs play a crucial role in advancing SC4 Housing’s mission by creating a supportive living environment that promotes academic success, personal and professional development, and cultural inclusivity. To achieve this, Resident Assistants will foster positive relationships among residents, facilitate programming events, and connect individuals with available campus resources. RAs also bear responsibility for ensuring the safety and security of the residents and the housing facility, serving in an on-call and emergency response capacity.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Plan, budget, and execute community events for the residential population.
– Engage with residents to build rapport and provide assistance and education.
– Complete scheduled front desk service shifts, primarily Monday through Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
– Develop and maintain monthly bulletin boards for community engagement.
– Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to address after-hours student needs and emergencies, requiring presence in the building Monday through Friday from 8:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., and all day Saturday and Sunday during the assigned week.
– Attend regular meetings with residential staff and individual housing meetings.
– Assist with special events such as move-in/move-out activities and housing orientation.
– Undertake additional duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The Resident Assistant will report directly to the Manager of College Housing.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Candidates must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred qualifications include 1-2 years of customer service experience and one year of recent full-time student experience at SC4.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
– The Resident Assistant must be a current SC4 student enrolled in at least one class during their term of employment.
– Ability to walk and navigate stairs and ramps is required.
– Proficiency in both written and oral communication skills is essential.
– Availability for on-call duties during the week is required.
– Competence in reading and comprehending all operating procedures and instructions.
– Completion of a criminal background check is mandatory.
– Strong customer service orientation and effective communication skills are essential.
– Proficiency with computers and phone operating systems is required.
– Consistent attendance and punctuality are expected.
– Demonstrated interpersonal skills with personnel and the public in a professional manner.
– Ability to maintain student confidentiality is critical.
