Description:

Accountability Objectives:
The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure a safe, clean, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The position entails a variety of departmental functions focused on repetitive cleaning and sanitation in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies, safe work practices, and compliance with state and federal regulations. The individual will collaborate with departmental leadership and the Logistics Center to effectively address the environmental service needs of the organization.

Position Qualifications:
Minimum Education, Licensure/Certification, and Experience Required:
A. Education

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing is required.

B. Licensure/Certification

  • Not applicable.

C. Special Skills/Aptitudes

  • Strong customer service orientation is essential for effective interaction with various levels of hospital personnel, external customers, and community groups.
  • Capability to bend, stoop, and lift heavy objects up to 35 lbs.
  • Willingness to learn and perform various job-related tasks.
  • Ability to work within a healthcare environment while demonstrating sensitivity to the needs and dignity of patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Competence in making safety-oriented decisions for the protection of patients, visitors, and staff.

D. Experience

  • Previous experience in housekeeping activities within a clinical setting is preferred.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct daily cleaning and disinfecting procedures for discharge, office, clinical, patient, and other hospital areas using prescribed techniques, equipment, and cleaning chemicals.
  2. Maintain the ability to perform physical tasks such as dismantling beds, isolettes, and cribs, while demonstrating high quality and productivity levels in all assignments.
  3. Ensure the overall cleanliness of trash storage rooms and staging areas for trash and compactors in both internal and external areas of the hospital.
  4. Return all housekeeping materials to the appropriate storerooms or janitor’s closets. At the end of each shift, clean and return dirty mops, rags, and equipment to the assigned areas.
  5. Clean and disinfect IV poles and portable commodes.
  6. Demonstrate proper handling and utilization of all cleaning chemicals, including appropriate dilutions.
  7. Perform numerous cleaning tasks in patient rooms including bed making, restroom cleaning, isolation room protocols, high dusting, and vacuuming; manage waste and linen containers; engage in discharge and occupied patient room cleaning procedures.
  8. Conduct cleaning in common hospital areas including restrooms, stairwells, and public areas, ensuring all spaces are maintained to prescribed standards.
  9. Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Arrive on time and appropriately dressed in uniform, ready to work in the assigned area.
  • Utilize SJMO-issued technology, software, and access credentials to ensure current access to systems, such as email and bed tracking.
  • Adhere to prescribed break schedules and remain in the designated work area unless otherwise directed by a supervisor.
  • Uphold SJMHS Service Excellence Standards.
