General Summary
Under supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, you will perform accurate and efficient diagnostic exams in all areas of general radiology. Technologists are expected to display strong clinical skills and provide optimal images for interpretation, while applying radiation protection principles and complying with relevant regulations. You will assume responsibility for your designated area and provide clinical instruction as needed, consistently adhering to Corewell Health’s philosophy of patient and family-centered care.

Essential Duties

  • Conduct quality diagnostic exams after verifying patient identification and physician orders.
  • Gather and document comprehensive patient histories in the medical record.
  • Monitor patients throughout procedures to ensure safety.
  • Perform radiographic and related patient care procedures with age-appropriate methods tailored to each patient’s physical capabilities and limitations.
  • Ensure that STAT requests are communicated to the radiologist promptly.
  • Communicate effectively with customer service, administrative staff, medical professionals, and colleagues.
  • Operate diagnostic imaging equipment proficiently while following protocols for addressing malfunctions or quality control issues.
  • Adhere to ALARA standards to minimize radiation exposure for patients, staff, and yourself.
  • Provide procedural explanations and education to patients and families prior to each exam.
  • Support departmental operational efficiency by assisting colleagues and ensuring compliance with quality assurance and control policies.
  • Accurately and efficiently utilize hospital computer systems for verifying orders, checking schedules, and transmitting information to PACS.
  • Assist in training students and new hires.
  • Ensure that equipment is properly cleaned between patients and that exam rooms are well-maintained, stocked, and tidy.
  • Maintain competence in all assigned areas, including fluoroscopy, general diagnostics, orthopedic applications, and operating room procedures.

Qualifications

  • Required: Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited radiography program.
  • Training acquired at the student level is essential.
  • Required certifications upon hire include CRT-Radiographer (R) from the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists), CRT-Radiologic Technologist Registration (ARRT) within 180 days, and CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA (American Heart Association).
