The Care Promoter 1 role is a unique position for unlicensed medical professionals who are cross-trained to perform essential administrative and clinical tasks, ensuring our medical centers operate efficiently. The responsibilities of the Care Promoter 1 may vary based on the specific setting, including factors such as size, location, and type. In addition to administrative responsibilities, Care Promoters deliver clinical support under the direct supervision of a physician, in accordance with state medical practice regulations. As a vital member of a Physician-led Care Team, this role focuses on providing exemplary and comprehensive primary care to a designated patient population.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Measure and record patient vital signs; document patient interviews and medical history.
  • Catalog and communicate patient needs to the Primary Care Provider (PCP), Clinician, Specialist, and other clinical personnel.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, perform routine screening tests, assist physicians during exams, and explain treatment procedures and physician instructions to patients.
  • Observe patients and report any changes in their conditions to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist, and other clinical staff.
  • Perform non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures as directed by medical instructions, including the collection of phlebotomy and other laboratory specimens, as well as basic waived lab tests.
  • Prepare and administer medications, change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and execute first aid procedures under physician supervision, including utilizing CPR skills when necessary.
  • Maintain supply levels, manage equipment, stock, and sterilize instruments; ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards; and produce accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Process patient phone messages, returning calls and routing them to appropriate team members; contact patients to gather and relay pertinent information for the physician.
  • With physician approval and authorization, call in prescriptions to pharmacies, utilizing appropriate medical terminology and adhering to legal and ethical professional conduct; authorized personnel will use the ChenMed Rx system for medication dispensing.
  • Provide health coaching to a defined group of patients to encourage healthy lifestyle choices and conduct follow-up communication through weekly calls.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or modified at the manager’s discretion.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, demonstrating compassion and empathy towards patients and their families.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities, coupled with effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Capacity for collaboration, working effectively with team members, including physicians, clinicians, market leaders, center managers, nurses, case managers, front desk staff, and market leaders.
  • A problem-solving mindset, focused on addressing patient needs and achieving team objectives.
  • Knowledge of medical products, terminology, services, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in basic phone and computer operations.
  • Detail-oriented to ensure accuracy in reports and data.
  • Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to streamline patient flow.
  • Capability to remain calm in busy or stressful environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel, as well as various word-processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and presentation software.
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally and/or regionally up to 10% of the time to assist in covering other centers, as needed.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written.

Education and Experience Criteria:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Graduation from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program or comparable healthcare vocational training (e.g., foreign-trained physician, paramedic, etc.) required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or a similar role in a hospital, medical clinic, or comparable setting; documented clinical rotation training may substitute for work experience.
  • BLS certification for Healthcare Providers is required.
  • Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems is preferred.
