Based in Michigan, Zeeland Lumber & Supply operates manufacturing plants specializing in truss and wall panel components, alongside full-service building material yards that distribute lumber and a broad range of specialty products, including windows, doors, roofing, cabinets, decking, and both interior and exterior trim. Position Overview
This role involves delivering materials to job sites, inspecting and maintaining the delivery vehicle, reporting shortages and claims to the supervisor, and assisting in the loading and storage of materials. The position typically requires operating a truck with a capacity exceeding three tons, although less experienced CDL or tractor-trailer drivers may also be considered.

Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour

Essential Job Duties

  • Operate vehicles safely and responsibly.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License as required.
  • Prepare DOT-mandated logs documenting duty time and driving hours.
  • Organize and secure loads effectively.
  • Assist forklift operators during loading procedures.
  • Verify the accuracy of orders prior to delivery.
  • Ensure timely and satisfactory delivery and unloading of materials for customers.
  • Complete daily pre-inspections of all equipment.
  • Record merchandise returned by truck and assist with unloading items for credit.
  • Adhere to Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Provide exemplary customer service.
  • Communicate messages from customers while on-site.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and colleagues across various work areas as needed.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and organization in the yard and warehouse.
  • Comply with all company policies and guidelines.
  • Operate truck-mounted forklifts safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle.
  • Participate in and complete assigned training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum educational requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Preferred experience: At least 6 months of CDL experience. Basic CDL experience with flatbed and/or tractor-trailer operations is required, with 1 year of CDL experience necessary for interstate commerce.
  • Special skills: Proficiency in basic mathematics, reading orders, writing instructions, and completing forms.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively and professionally with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to navigate and address conflicts constructively while identifying potential issues.
  • Maintain a current operator’s license and satisfy company driver qualification criteria.
  • Knowledge of and ability to employ safe lifting techniques.
  • Physical requirements include frequent bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting of up to 100 lbs or more on a repetitive basis, along with the ability to work in various environmental conditions.
  • Proficiency or the ability to learn current technologies (e.g., smartphones, GPS, and other relevant business applications).
