Job description:
This position involves operating a cash register and electronic scanner to accurately itemize and total customer purchases, process various forms of payment, and assist in bagging items, all while providing exemplary customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

– Operate the cash register and electronic scanner to itemize customer transactions, handling a diverse array of products including dry groceries, frozen items, dairy products, produce, and meats.
– Process financial transactions accurately, including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons, in accordance with company policies.
– Weigh and properly bag customer purchases to ensure quality service.
– Understand and efficiently operate check-stand equipment, including registers, scanners, scales, and belts.
– Manage front-end duties, which may involve merchandising check-stand items such as newspapers, periodicals, and candy.
– Ensure the correct use of product identification and corresponding PLU numbers, promptly reporting any discrepancies in pricing or signage.
– Maintain knowledge of current store programs and product locations to assist customers effectively.
– Communicate company programs, in-store specials, and coupons to customers while modeling high service standards to foster a customer-oriented atmosphere.
– Adhere to company policies regarding security, cash handling, product management (including damaged/spoiled items), and the sale of regulated products such as alcohol and tobacco.
– Maintain a clean and well-stocked department, following safety and sanitation standards.
– Support stocking operations as needed.
– Comply with all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Safety Guidelines.
– Follow established Food Safety and Cleaning Expectations.
– Adhere to guest experience guidelines consistently.
– Be flexible and willing to assist in other departments based on customer experience needs.
– Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:

– High school diploma or GED is preferred.
– Prior retail or related experience is preferred, with at least one year in a similar role.
– Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with customers.
– Excellent customer service and organizational skills, with a strong attention to detail.
– Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic are required.
