Position Summary:
In alignment with our organization’s mission to enhance the lives of the Guests we serve, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays an essential role in delivering exceptional customer service and nursing care to all Guests. The CNA is responsible for safeguarding the health, safety, and welfare of each Guest by adhering to relevant laws, regulations, and established nursing policies and procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
– Deliver quality nursing care to residents while fostering an environment that upholds their rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and individuality.
– Provide personalized attention that encourages residents to achieve and maintain optimal physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
– Familiarize yourself with the individualized care plans for residents and offer support accordingly, contributing relevant information and observations to the care planning team.
– Assist residents with their activities of daily living (ADLs), including but not limited to bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
– Address individual needs of all Guests in terms of incontinent care, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communication, and other specific requirements.
– Ensure the preservation of each Guest’s skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears, and other damage through appropriate care practices, including turning, repositioning, and applying moisturizers.
– Execute various tasks as designated by the floor nurse, such as checking vital signs, weighing Guests, applying creams and ointments, and collecting specimens.
– Assist the Wound Care Nurse as directed.
– Document provided care and relevant information in PCC, ensuring adherence to departmental policies and maintaining strict confidentiality.
– Conduct all job responsibilities following prescribed safety and infection control procedures, including the appropriate use of disposable gloves and the safe disposal of soiled materials.
– Employ hand hygiene principles in daily tasks, demonstrate understanding of isolation and standard precautions, recognize signs of infection, and comply with the employee health program. Maintain personal hygiene and adhere to OSHA standards while demonstrating knowledge of cross-contamination prevention.
– Support the training of new staff members.
– Help maintain a safe, neat, and clean environment, promptly reporting any hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, or supply shortages to the supervisor.
– Respond promptly and courteously to call lights.
– Assist with new admissions, re-admissions, and transfers of Guests within the facility.
– Communicate and interact effectively and tactfully with Guests, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
– Fully understand and uphold all aspects of residents’ rights, including the right to be free of restraints and abuse. Responsible for reporting any incidents or evidence of suspected abuse or violations of residents’ rights to the charge nurse or administrator.
– Ensure the comfort, privacy, and dignity of Guests, interacting in a manner that conveys warmth and respect. Support and protect Resident Rights, assist Guests in making informed decisions, and report suspected abuse or neglect while promoting choice and independence in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
– Safeguard the personal belongings of each resident, including but not limited to eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, furniture, jewelry, clothing, and memorabilia, and report any missing items according to established policies.
– Utilize proper body mechanics and lifting devices to safely lift, move, and transport residents. Utilize wheelchairs, slide boards, walkers, and canes as required.
– Accompany and assist residents to appointments, activities, or church services as instructed.
– Maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and protect confidential information by sharing it only on a need-to-know basis.
– Attend staff meetings and in-services as requested and participate in continuing education programs required for the maintenance of professional certification or licensure.
– Answer incoming calls as necessary and direct them appropriately.
– Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements:

Education, Training, and Experience:
– High school diploma or equivalent.
– A current Michigan Certified Nurse Aide Certification or completion of a Michigan-approved CNA training program, with eligibility to test. Certification must be obtained within four months of hire.
– One year of experience in long-term care, hospice, or healthcare is preferred but not required.

Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
– Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematics.
– Capacity to communicate verbally with residents, staff, and visitors.
– Demonstrates reliability through punctuality and good attendance.
– Ability to maintain a safe environment for residents and co-workers.
