Job description:

Northwest Detroit Lasher Home Dialysis, part of an outpatient dialysis facility, is dedicated to the management of peritoneal and home dialysis patients, currently overseeing a census of three peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Our unit is staffed with full-time nephrologists and a professional team of both full-time and part-time home nurses, along with a travel pool of home dialysis technicians. Additional support is provided by shared staff from our outpatient clinic, including front desk personnel and a technical leader responsible for machine maintenance and operational duties.

We effectively case manage multiple patients through connected health systems for Baxter and NxStage. Our comprehensive training programs equip patients to conduct dialysis treatments at home, with PD training lasting 7 to 10 days and home hemodialysis (HHD) training spanning 4 to 6 weeks. The home care team schedules monthly clinic visits for all home patients, ensuring interdisciplinary collaboration and lab draws for PD patients. Furthermore, we offer patient education and facilitate referrals to transplant services at the patients’ request.

Our operating hours are typically Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, with some scheduling flexibility based on clinic needs. Home nurses will be expected to participate in daily on-call responsibilities, including weekends. The home clinic is generally closed on weekends and holidays unless necessitated by clinical needs or training.

We are actively seeking a dedicated and empathetic Clinical Dialysis Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in patient care and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of individuals with kidney disease. In this full-time position, you will work four 10-hour shifts per week and rotate on weekends and holidays.

General Summary:

  • Execute dialysis treatments in accordance with established protocols and physician directives.
  • Monitor and assess patients during treatment, including vital signs, and respond promptly to any changes in condition.
  • Set up and operate dialysis machines, carrying out routine maintenance and troubleshooting as required.
  • Administer prescribed medications and intravenous fluids under physician guidance.
  • Educate patients and their families on dialysis procedures, dietary restrictions, and effective self-care techniques.
