Purpose of this Position: The primary goal of this position is to ensure that all areas of the Assisted Living Center are maintained in a clean and odor-free condition, fostering a safe, inviting, and homelike atmosphere for our residents. Responsibilities include ensuring that all flat laundry—such as bed linens, towels, face cloths, table linens, napkins, and aprons—are cleaned, sanitized, properly folded, and stored for use. Additionally, it is essential to maintain resident personal laundry in optimal condition, addressing spots and stains, mending as needed, and following washing and drying specifications. Timely return of laundry, including ironing as required, is also part of the role.
Qualifications: Candidates must exhibit a positive and respectful attitude towards the elderly, including those who may be physically fragile or have dementia. Proficiency in reading, writing, and following directions in English is necessary. The role requires maturity and the capacity to effectively manage job demands. Experience in healthcare, hotel housekeeping, or laundry services is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates must successfully pass state-mandated criminal background checks and random drug testing.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct thorough cleaning of resident apartments as assigned, encompassing vacuuming, window washing, dusting, and cleaning toilets, showers, sinks, and bathroom floors.
- Empty resident waste baskets while carefully inspecting for accidental disposal of hearing aids, dentures, eyeglasses, or valuables.
- Clean all assigned common areas, including the dining room, beverage area, lobby, and community room, involving dusting, vacuuming, window washing, and polishing chrome or brass fixtures.
- Dust all furniture, lamps, light fixtures, handrails, baseboards, and other surfaces.
- Sanitize bathrooms (both common and resident apartments) including toilets, sinks, and floors, while polishing chrome and stainless steel fixtures. Replenish paper towels and toilet tissue, and replace soap dispensers when necessary.
- Inspect furniture for debris or damage and report any issues to the supervisor as needed.
- Properly dispose of trash, cardboard, and recyclables in accordance with disposal guidelines.
- Utilize safe techniques for handling chemicals and cleaning solutions, following the prescribed usage instructions.
- Ensure proper storage of products, tools, supplies, and housekeeping carts.
- Collect soiled laundry from designated areas.
- Sort and inspect laundry for spots, stains, or tears, taking appropriate measures.
- Launder resident personal items according to label instructions, avoiding mixing of resident laundry.
- Fold or hang items according to resident preferences.
- Perform ironing when necessary.
- Return laundered items to residents promptly.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of cleaning equipment.
General Responsibilities:
- Serve as a goodwill ambassador for the living center.
- Comply with Life Safety policies and participate in periodic drills.
- Engage in training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Report any safety and health hazards to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Physical & Mental Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Capability to stand, bend, twist, turn, stoop, squat, sit, kneel, pull, push, and walk long distances on hard surfaces for extended periods.
