Job description:
The Packer is responsible for working in a designated area to package products into trays or cartons for shipping. Key responsibilities include preparing cartons and displays, manually packing and palletizing products, as well as conducting final quality inspections of finished goods.
- Prepare cardboard cartons and trays for product packing by folding, taping, sorting, and labeling, and ensure that tape guns have an adequate supply of tape.
- Conduct visual inspections of final product packaging to ensure product integrity, including checking bag registration, code dates, and seals. Remove any out-of-specification products and report packaging issues.
- Fill cartons and displays according to packaging specifications, ensuring products are accurately labeled, and tape and seal cartons as required.
- Stack the correct number of cartons on pallets or skids using appropriate patterns and utilize a pallet jack for moving finished goods weighing up to 300 lbs, as applicable.
- Clear loose products from work areas, dispose of defective materials, and maintain cleanliness by sweeping the floor.
- Assist with product rework following plant standards.
- Adhere to safety and hygiene guidelines to ensure safe housekeeping and personal protection.
- Maintain a clean work area by following 5S protocols and storing packaging supplies in designated locations.
- Ensure work area aisles and exits are unobstructed and remove any trash from the floor.
- Perform sanitation tasks as directed, which may include equipment cleaning and wipeouts.
- Prepare the line for startup and assist with equipment changeovers when necessary.
- Potentially operate tray-making or stapling machines.
- Report any operational issues to Machine Operators, Group Leaders, or Supervisors as appropriate.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Mandatory overtime may be required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
A High School Diploma or GED is required, along with a minimum of one year of production experience in a manufacturing environment.
