Job description:

We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented 2nd Shift Panel Wirer to join our manufacturing team in Tecumseh, MI. In this full-time, direct hire position, the successful candidate will be responsible for wiring, assembling, and troubleshooting electrical systems in various machine tools, following specified blueprints and technical instructions. This role demands strong electrical aptitude, precision, and the capacity to work efficiently within a team-oriented environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret Wiring Diagrams: Read, comprehend, and accurately interpret wiring diagrams to facilitate job functions.
  • Support Company Objectives: Understand and uphold the company’s philosophies, goals, and directions, including compliance with ISO 9001 and 14001 policies and procedures.
  • Timely Labor Reporting: Accurately report labor hours in a timely manner, adhering to company guidelines.
  • Material Handling: Safely apply material handling processes while following established safety protocols.
  • Quality Work Standards: Produce high-quality work within the expected timelines as set by team and group leads.
  • Set Department Standards: Maintain high standards of housekeeping, attendance, and teamwork within the department by leading by example.
  • Tool Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in standard hand tools and specialized tools as necessary.
  • Customer Interaction: Engage professionally with customers both within the plant and in the field.
  • Team Communication: Maintain effective communication with leads and team members to ensure seamless workflow.
  • Line Wiring Operations: Execute all line wiring tasks with precision and efficiency.
  • Work Autonomously: Operate effectively with minimal supervision, managing tasks independently.
  • Missing Parts System: Utilize the missing parts system to identify and resolve shortages or discrepancies.
  • Training and Communication: Provide effective communication and training to employees and customers as required.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve issues related to electrical designs and components, implementing appropriate corrective actions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Suggest enhancements for work areas, products, and processes to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Prototype Work: Conduct prototype work with limited engineering input and minimal supervision.
  • Field Installations: Perform and/or oversee machine installations in the field, ensuring proper setup and functionality.
  • Design Analysis: Assess electrical designs for accuracy, functionality, and cost-effectiveness, making necessary adjustments.
  • Panel Work: Carry out component changes, build panels, and wire multiple product lines as necessary.
  • Safety Training and Compliance:
    • Complete training on overhead crane usage and adhere strictly to all safety requirements.
    • Undergo fall protection training and comply with protocols where applicable.
    • Complete Lockout/Tagout training and utilize all required precautions during lockout/tagout procedures.
    • Consistently operate safely and adhere to environmental responsibility guidelines.
    • Maintain compliance with 5S standards in the work area to ensure organization and efficiency.
    • Promptly report any discrepancies or errors on prints, material lists, or other documentation.
    • Collaborate effectively with teams on second and third shifts to achieve productivity and quality objectives.

Required Education/Skills/Experience:

  • An Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or 3 to 5 years of related experience or training; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience as a machine tool electrician or in a similar manufacturing role.
  • Strong electrical skills and a comprehensive understanding of electrical components and wiring techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to quality and safety.

Minimum Requirements:

  • An Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or 3 to 5 years of relevant experience or training; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Exhibit personal leadership and actively participate in or lead problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Display flexibility in high-stress or emergency situations, prioritizing tasks and adapting to new assignments as needed.
