The Office of the Chief Financial Officer, specifically within the Office of Department Financial Services, Public Safety Fire Division, is seeking applications for the position of Accounting Reporting Clerk (Supervisory Clerk I).
Position Summary:
The successful candidate will serve as a Supervisory Clerk within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) and the Office of Departmental Financial Services (ODFS) for the City of Detroit. This role involves leading and supervising clerical paraprofessionals. The Supervisory Clerk I will be charged with the oversight and management of all clerical-related activities and projects within the Detroit Fire Department (DFD), with a particular emphasis on the Fire Marshal Division. The incumbent will leverage the accounts receivable and general ledger modules of the Oracle ERP Cloud to enhance DFD operations.
Key Responsibilities:
– Manage financial operations of the DFD Fire Marshal Division utilizing Oracle Cloud ERP, Smartsheet, and Mobileye platforms.
– Supervise all office and support tasks performed by direct reports.
– Provide training and support to team members, ensuring they have access to relevant source materials.
– Oversee the training and effective use of departmental hardware and software by staff.
– Guide direct reports on professional telephone communication and etiquette.
– Direct the maintenance and updating of database systems managed by team members.
– Ensure clerical processes are conducted accurately, including data compilation and verification.
– Monitor employee interactions with customers and colleagues, addressing inquiries, providing information, and resolving complaints.
– Manage the handling of incoming and outgoing mail and correspondence.
– Supervise workflows to ensure timely invoice processing and accurate account matching.
– Implement data verification procedures to minimize errors.
– Oversee basic accounting functions performed by subordinates, including managing accounts through specialized accounting software.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
– High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Experience:
– A minimum of five (5) years of combined experience is required, including four (4) years of direct clerking experience. While prior supervisory experience is not mandatory, demonstrated leadership in team settings, projects, or assignments is essential. The Supervisory Clerk I must exhibit proficiency in integrated word processing and spreadsheet software.
Preferred Qualifications:
– An Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a Project Management Certification is preferred.
