Job description:
Performs a variety of duties related to the general servicing of aircraft, including fueling, parking, towing, and moving aircraft. Additionally, provides exceptional service to crews, passengers, and clients utilizing St. Clair County International Airport. Responsibilities also include general custodial and maintenance tasks for the upkeep of airport buildings, runways, and grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Conduct aircraft fueling and de-icing as required.
– Greet, park, tow, move, and marshal aircraft arriving at and departing from the airfield.
– Manage payment transactions using a point-of-sale system.
– Accurately track aircraft fueling operations, payments, and cash drawer activity.
– Handle incoming phone calls and route them appropriately.
– Adhere to all aviation safety rules and regulations.
– Perform routine quality assurance checks on the fuel and delivery systems on a daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
– Assist passengers and crew with baggage and cargo.
– Provide professional customer service and assist with hotel, car, and other travel arrangements.
– Coordinate and confirm catering orders with local restaurants.
– Assist with wing-walking duties during aircraft movements.
– Perform custodial tasks, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, and waxing furniture and floors.
– Clean and maintain restrooms.
– Wash and paint windows, walls, and woodwork.
– Collect and dispose of refuse.
– Operate maintenance and custodial equipment and tools.
– Carry out minor electrical, plumbing, and carpentry maintenance tasks.
– Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment and tools.
– Maintain necessary records and reports.
– Inspect and maintain the airport and airfield on a daily basis.
– Manage lawn maintenance, including mowing and watering tasks.
– Conduct airfield operations and maintenance activities related to both the airfield and airport buildings.
– Respond to accidents or incidents involving aircraft.
– Ensure safe conditions on the airfield at all times.
– Operate heavy equipment for snow removal and turf maintenance.
– Support the Airport Director in the daily administrative and operational management of the airport and its resources.
– Assist in maintaining compliance with the DEQ Stormwater Prevention Plan, DNR wildlife control permits, and DEQ environmental regulations.
– Aid in the enforcement of the St. Clair County International Airport Zoning Ordinance.
– Contribute to the analysis of fuel sales, volumes, and inventory data.
– Serve as a backup to the Director for payroll processing as needed.
– Coordinate snow removal operations during inclement weather, determining operational needs and reporting to the FAA Flight Service Station and airport tenants.
– Be readily available for snow removal and airport emergencies on a 24/7 on-call basis.
– Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is under the direct supervision of the Airport Director.

Experience, Skills, Education:
– A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
– Experience in the general maintenance and operation of heavy equipment is essential.
– Previous experience in airport operations and/or aviation is preferred, but not mandatory.
– Certification in Automated External Defibrillator and CPR is required.
– Knowledge of basic firefighting techniques is necessary.
– Familiarity with materials and equipment related to airfield, building, and grounds maintenance is expected.
– Strong understanding of electrical systems, as well as basic plumbing, carpentry, and heavy equipment repair knowledge.
– Comprehension of airfield safety standards and maintenance principles is important.
– Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure is essential.
– Proficiency in writing, reading, and mathematics; strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook; ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in accordance with policies and procedures; independence in research and problem-solving; knowledge of county operations; excellent prioritization and time management skills; capacity to handle stressful situations; and commitment to providing effective and friendly customer service.

Conditions of Employment:
– Candidates must complete a satisfactory background check prior to starting employment, which includes drug screening, physical exams, criminal background checks, driving records, sex offender registry checks, education verification, training and licensing checks, employment history, credit checks, and reference assessments.
– A valid State of Michigan operator’s license is required, and candidates must maintain this license throughout employment in this role.
– Completion of aviation competence education training within 30 days of employment is necessary.
– A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with airbrake endorsement must be obtained and maintained throughout employment.
– Employees must acquire MDOT DEQ Industrial Storm Water Certification within 90 days of hiring.
– Possession of valid CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications is required, or employees must complete this training within 90 days of their employment.
