This position is within Cargill’s animal nutrition and health division, dedicated to enhancing animal welfare through superior nutrition. Our team engages in research, innovation, and the development of solutions that yield beneficial outcomes for our customers.

The Animal Care Technician will be primarily tasked with implementing approved protocols for animal studies efficiently, accurately, and safely. Responsibilities include conducting research trials, collecting critical data such as animal weight, feed consumption, and other sample information, as well as performing feeding and routine cleaning of pens. The role also encompasses standard animal husbandry and housekeeping duties.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Ensure cleanliness and perform basic troubleshooting on research equipment to meet protocol requirements (including scales, pressure washers, milk taxis, and pallet jacks).
  • Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and enhancement of experimental methodologies, daily routines, and procedures.
  • Uphold safe working conditions in line with our safety program and animal welfare standards, while adhering to animal policies.
  • Implement established protocols and standard operating procedures, including feeding, sample collection, animal observation, disease recognition in calves and turkeys, and precise data compilation, ensuring timely and accurate execution.
  • Handle administrative, technical, or customer support issues with minimal supervision, escalating complex issues as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. that is not solely based on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer.
  • Minimum age of 18 years to work in a production facility, as required by Cargill.
  • Proficiency in understanding and communicating in English (both verbal and written).
  • Capability to perform physical tasks, which may include bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting, safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work in diverse indoor and outdoor conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, dust, and loud noises, while utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays with prior notice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating a forklift and/or in warehousing.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Prior experience in production-related work.
