Job Overview

The Assistant Director for WBLI will collaborate with the Academic Director to design and implement tailored leadership development experiences, content, and tools for University of Cincinnati undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, and community members. Responsibilities may include organizing leadership workshops, training programs, producing educational materials, curating the annual Warren Bennis Leadership Experience, and developing mobile applications and podcasts.

The Assistant Director will actively engage with the WBLI Advisory Board and the Academic Liaisons Group to refine a comprehensive model for student leader development that aligns with the Carnegie Foundation’s Elective Classification standards, while assessing student learning, curricular and co-curricular offerings, and overall engagement and impact. Collaboration with the Academic Director on strategic planning, long-term initiatives, and internal and external partnerships is essential. The role may involve teaching courses, facilitating seminars or workshops, and overseeing staff.

Reporting to the WBLI Academic Director, the Assistant Director will play a pivotal role in managing the administration and operations of the interdisciplinary Leadership Institute. Key operational duties include reconciling credit card transactions, procuring supplies, organizing events, scheduling meetings, documenting notes and action items, responding to inquiries, updating website content, and developing promotional materials.

This position offers the possibility of a hybrid work schedule (three days in the office and two days working from home) for candidates residing within OH/IN/KY after 90 days of training. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance from the UC Main Campus to ensure on-campus presence as needed. Remote work arrangements may be subject to changes in accordance with university policies.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget, develop, implement, and monitor assigned budgets, with limited signature authority for purchases and payroll.
  • Prepare reports and interpret information, provide guidance, write proposals, deliver presentations, create contractual agreements, and ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provide assistance to students, faculty/staff, and corporate partners in resolving inquiries and complex issues, acting as a university representative both internally and externally.
  • Provide administrative leadership and supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff; responsibilities include hiring, orientation, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation.
  • Participate in various university and college committees and represent the Institute at state and national associations/conferences; may act on behalf of the Director or Associate Director as needed.
  • Develop, implement, administer, and evaluate programs through research, data analysis, report creation, trend reviews, and recommendations for program improvements.
  • Formulate and execute strategies pertaining to outreach, events, communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising.
  • Responsible for preparing and teaching courses, seminars, and workshops based on Institute offerings.
  • May supervise exempt and non-exempt staff directly or indirectly, including hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and approving time off.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Candidates may substitute seven (7) years of relevant work experience or specialized training for the education requirement.

Required Experience

  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • A Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Business Administration, Leadership Development, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or Education) coupled with at least five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Professional coaching certification (e.g., ICF Certification at a minimum of the ACC level).
  • Additional certifications or training in leadership development, facilitation, and assessment tools.

  • Exposure to cross-cultural leadership development and international training.
  • Familiarity with podcasting or media production pertinent to leadership education.
