The Opportunity
This role is located in Sturgis, Michigan, within our Abbott Nutrition division, where we spearhead the development of science-backed nutrition products tailored for all age groups. What You’ll Work On:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in executing sampling procedures for the Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) while adhering to departmental objectives.
  • Apply Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and aseptic techniques during microbiological sampling, including air samples, swabs, steam, and water.
  • Conduct testing for various pathogens, including Salmonella, Cronobacter, E. Coli, and Staph aureus.
  • Utilize aseptic techniques in controlled environments and apply diverse plating methods for organism identification.
  • Familiarize yourself with quality system requirements to aid in batch release and quality assurance processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, demonstrating a high degree of motivation, attention to detail, and clear communication, acknowledging the significant responsibility each team member holds for departmental success.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks to ensure timely completion of all required sampling.
  • Report directly to the Lab Supervisor/FLL, working with minimal supervision while adhering to applicable GMPs, FDA, USDA, OSHA, and Abbott regulations.
  • Conduct aseptic and safe sampling as per established protocols and perform environmental sampling within the production environment.
  • Document all sample collections accurately and maintain tools and documentation required for sampling.
  • Maintain housekeeping duties, including waste disposal and general laboratory sanitation.
  • Uphold accountability for Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) performance through active participation in Abbott’s EHS Program.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a manufacturing or laboratory setting (experience may be gained through post-secondary education).
  • Strong understanding of GMP operational processes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical capabilities.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a complex, matrixed, and geographically diverse environment.
  • Team-oriented with the capability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively at various organizational levels.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up abilities.
  • Reliability in maintaining consistent attendance.
