The Assistant Production Shift Supervisor will oversee and coordinate production floor activities to ensure effective shift operations at our Michigan Center facility. This role requires a dedication to maintaining a safe work environment for all employees, processes, and equipment, while driving productivity and safety enhancements. The successful candidate will uphold company policies and safety procedures and engage in various continuous improvement initiatives within the plant.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-the-job leadership and supervision of assigned team members within a designated department or area of the plant.
  • Extend the supervisory capacity of the immediate reporting supervisor.
  • Assist the Shift Manager in executing production schedules.
  • Direct daily workflow and assign tasks to employees.
  • Enforce all safety protocols diligently.
  • Operate mixers, extruders, reactors, or forklifts as required by the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
  • Facilitate scheduled breaks for employees as necessary.
  • Manage plant shut down or start up as appropriate.
  • Monitor team morale and overall plant atmosphere, addressing issues with plant management as needed.
  • Develop and assist in training programs for personnel.
  • Oversee or direct data entry into ERP systems regarding production processes.
  • Support and strive to achieve departmental and shift-specific goals.
  • Provide input to management regarding performance evaluations, competencies, and training needs.
  • Deliver coaching and performance documentation when necessary.
  • Maintain responsibility for daily departmental reports and ensure effective housekeeping practices.
  • Lead and engage in team projects related to housekeeping, safety, 5S, and Lean/Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Work to maximize the overall effectiveness of the team.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Experience with safety and quality systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Willingness to work alternate shifts and/or overtime as required.
  • External candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of team lead or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, along with 3 years of experience in continuous improvement.
  • Internal candidates should have at least 3 years of mixing and extrusion manufacturing experience.
  • Record of no safety incidents.
  • Consistently meets performance and attendance expectations.

Compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location. The salary for this position is $27 per hour.
