Job description:

Skywood Recovery Center is a residential treatment facility dedicated to providing integrated treatment for substance use disorders. Our programs include individual and group therapy, experiential therapy, equine and art therapy, as well as yoga. Situated in Augusta, MI, conveniently located near Kalamazoo and Lansing, our campus offers a restorative environment that encourages outdoor activities.

The Business Development Representative plays a crucial role in establishing, developing, and expanding our presence within the designated territory and specific accounts. This position is pivotal in driving results for the region by engaging both new and existing referral sources. The role allows for flexibility in location within the territory covering Southeast Michigan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Surpass company performance targets by cultivating influence across diverse market segments, including but not limited to physicians, practitioners, social services, psychiatrists, hospitals, professional organizations, mental health centers, employee assistance programs (EAPs), attorneys, and advocacy groups. This will be accomplished through various channels such as personal appointments, phone calls, emails, and attendance at conferences and community events.
  • Establish and nurture an extensive professional referral network within the assigned territory.
  • Generate new referral accounts through effective qualification and prospecting while ensuring continued productivity with existing clients.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with facility staff regarding outreach and business development updates, conduct weekly facility tours, facilitate event organization and conference attendance, and ensure timely follow-up.
  • Promote events strategically to attract new prospects and systematically follow up to maximize opportunities that arise from event participation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of consultative and solutions-focused selling with a proven ability to deliver insights to customers.
  • Competency in managing large accounts, including navigating gatekeepers, influencing multiple decision-makers, and comprehending transaction complexities.
  • Preferred knowledge of substance use, addictions, recovery, and co-occurring disorders among adults.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to relate well to diverse individuals both inside and outside the organization, building constructive relationships with diplomacy and tact, and effectively diffusing high-tension situations.
  • Proficient in delivering impactful presentations across various formal settings, including one-on-one discussions, small groups, and larger audiences.
  • Strong time management skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing the highest level of customer service in all interactions.

Education and Experience:

  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health, psychology, business, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of recent experience in performance-driven sales, event planning, and business development.
  • Demonstrated experience in account development with a proven ability to close sales effectively.
  • Familiarity with addictions, dual diagnosis, and co-occurring disorders for adults is preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., MS Office, Outlook, Excel, CRM software).

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to communicate complex topics effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Regular use of a computer requiring manual dexterity.
