Job Overview
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive leadership for the facility and operational needs of the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) and its various satellite facilities. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for facility and project management, oversight of custodial, maintenance, and building systems, staff management and development, strategic planning, fiscal oversight, and the establishment of relevant policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with the senior leadership team to develop and realize the department’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Supervise full-time staff directly, including hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and establishing performance plans, while also providing indirect supervision to student staff.
- Lead, guide, and mentor the Facilities and Operations team to cultivate a positive, inclusive, and productive work atmosphere.
- Oversee the operational and facility needs, encompassing project coordination and management, HVAC systems, event management, climbing wall program operations, event coordination, facility scheduling, and staffing.
- Partner with Facilities Management to set priorities, responsibilities, and schedules that maintain safe and clean facilities, conducting regular safety inspections.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to procure facility and fitness equipment, ensuring proper preventative maintenance, repairs, and installations.
- Serve as the primary liaison for construction and renovation projects, working closely with the Campus Recreation team, architects, and contractors.
- Manage contracts and agreements with vendors, suppliers, and service providers for capital purchases.
- Interpret and implement industry best practices for safety and risk management policies, procedures, and equipment, including building access, security systems, and audio/visual technologies.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, implement safety protocols, and maintain an up-to-date record of incidents and safety reports, serving as a liaison with UC Risk Management and other relevant departments.
- Oversee fiscal development for annual operating and capital budgets, prioritizing purchase requests and resolving any budget discrepancies.
- Collect and analyze data to prepare reports on facility usage, member feedback, and related recommendations.
- Stay current on best practices in facility and operational trends to inform product, equipment, and service implementation.
- Undertake special projects and initiatives to support Campus Recreation, Campus Services, and the university’s broader goals, while actively participating in department and university committees.
- Exemplify leadership by regularly engaging with and utilizing the facilities.
- Availability for occasional weekend and evening work is required.

Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or specialized training may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Required Trainings/Certifications
Certification/Licensure:
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers with First Aid certification, required within six (6) months of employment.
Required Experience
- Five (5) years of direct and progressive experience in facility operations, maintenance practices, custodial services, building systems, and safety regulations within a recreation, municipal, or athletic context.
Additional Qualifications Considered
- Three (3) years of full-time, professional staff supervision, with experience in hiring, training, and evaluating staff.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage operating and capital budgets across multiple cost centers.
- A robust background in facilities and operations, encompassing supervision, maintenance, project coordination, event planning, scheduling, and risk management.
- Proven leadership experience with a focus on staff development and performance standards.
