FULL TIME – DAYS

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of a physician, the Associate Special Procedure Tech delivers comprehensive care for patients undergoing Heart and/or Vascular procedures, aiming to assist physicians while ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. Responsibilities include performing IV starts, preparing patients, monitoring hemodynamics, operating medical equipment, documenting procedures, managing vascular access sites, and providing education to patients and their families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Monitor patients throughout routine invasive and interventional procedures, ensuring intra-procedural technical support and exemplary patient and family-centered care.
  • May perform and document hemodynamic and physiological waveforms and calculations.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, physicians, patients, families, and ancillary departments, consistently adhering to Corewell Health Standards.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on technical equipment and participate in departmental skills validations.
  • Uphold radiation safety standards for both staff and patients in accordance with the Corewell Health Radiation Safety Department.
  • Availability for On Call shifts as per department scheduling requirements.
  • IR Special Procedure Techs must provide first-assist support to physicians utilizing sterile techniques and fully engage in 3D imaging, vascular, and cerebral procedures within six months.
  • Cath Lab Special Procedure Techs must be proficient in utilizing IVUS, FFR, OCT, and ICE within six months of hire, if applicable at the facility.
  • EP Lab Special Procedure Techs must demonstrate proficiency in ICE, participate in device implants, and circulate in all other EP cases by the end of orientation, if applicable at the facility.
  • Employees are required to complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education annually related to their field of practice.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Training:

  • Completion of an accredited radiography program (JRCERT) is required for Interventional Radiology roles.
  • For Cath Lab/EP Lab positions, candidates must be graduates of a Cardiovascular Technologist program, hold an Associate degree in cardiovascular technology/basic sciences, possess a Paramedic license, or have equivalent training and/or education.

Work Experience:

  • Clinical experience is mandatory through graduation from one of the aforementioned programs.
  • Prior experience in EP, Cath Lab, or IR is preferred.
  • Candidates for Interventional Radiology are strongly encouraged to have previous experience as a Radiology or Interventional Tech.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • Interventional Radiology roles require BLS certification and active RT status upon hire, with RT-CV or VI certification to be obtained within two years.
  • Cath Lab positions necessitate BLS certification upon hire and ACLS certification within six months, as specified by the individual site, along with IABP certification within 120 days of hire.
  • EP Lab roles require BLS upon hire and ACLS certification within a maximum of six months as determined by the individual site.

Other Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, mathematical skills, exceptional communication abilities, and outstanding customer service skills.
