About The College

The University Honors Program (UHP) at the University of Cincinnati seeks an Assistant Director of Admissions and Marketing to join our team. The UHP aims to cultivate students into global citizen scholars who are equipped to address the complex challenges facing our world.

The Assistant Director plays a pivotal role in actualizing this vision by overseeing the marketing and recruitment efforts aimed at engaging students who are committed to this mission throughout their undergraduate journey. As a national leader in honors education, the UHP is a distinguished academic program that supports and challenges highly motivated, high-achieving students through innovative, experience-based learning approaches centered on reflection and integration.

Job Overview

This is a two-year position with potential for permanence, dedicating an 80:20 split of responsibilities between the University Honors Program and the Hoffman Honors Scholars. The role involves supporting admissions and marketing initiatives for the UHP, spearheading recruitment efforts, managing communications strategies, and overseeing webpages and social media platforms. The Assistant Director will also manage the UHP Ambassador program and support the communications initiatives for the Hoffman Honors Scholars through various digital media.

Essential Functions

Marketing Communications

  • Oversee daily content management for the UHP and Hoffman Honors Scholars websites and social media platforms to enhance prospective student engagement and marketing efforts aimed at current students.
  • Utilize university communication platforms to involve faculty, staff, and campus partners in active recruitment aligned with programmatic strategies.
  • Develop engaging content targeting strategic audiences to advance initiatives focused on student access, excellence, and retention.
  • Create and update admissions resources, promotional materials, and digital media.
  • Co-lead a student media and design team to generate communication solutions for the UHP and Hoffman Honors Scholars.

Admissions Processes

  • Manage the application process for current UC students, encompassing planning, communication, event coordination, training, assessment, and strategic outreach.
  • Collaborate with the director to facilitate undergraduate admissions for first-year, transfer, and UCBA Honors students as well as associated recruitment efforts.
  • Present program information during admissions events and trainings such as Open Houses, Admitted Bearcat Days, UHP Close-Ups, and Counselor Fly-Ins.
  • Serve on admissions committees alongside peers from various colleges and partner organizations, including the New Student Enrollment Network and The College Board.
  • Build and maintain relationships with college and program partners to enhance recruitment efforts and program initiatives, while engaging in outreach to raise the profile of the UHP and Hoffman Honors Scholars within the broader university community.
  • Utilize student information systems including Catalyst, Slate, CART, and the UHP Student Database to support program operations.

Honors Ambassadors

  • Manage a team of up to 45 UHP Ambassadors, including their recruitment, selection, and training, to promote leadership and professional growth.
  • Supervise the Ambassador Leadership Team and oversee pre-approved experiences.
  • Provide mentorship to first-year ambassadors.
  • Oversee ambassador activities supporting admissions, Gateway to University Honors classes, community engagements, and other initiatives.

First-Year Experience

  • Lead and coordinate pre-sessions for the University Honors Program during Bearcats Bound Orientation.
  • Hire, train, and support two student assistants for orientation sessions.
  • Collaborate with the Orientation and Admissions teams to plan event logistics and communication strategies for students and their guests.
  • Develop and deliver engaging presentations, activities, and materials for incoming students.
  • Teach HNRS1010: Gateway to University Honors.
  • Participate in the UHP First-Year Experience committee.

General Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular assessments of program activities, including the transition application process and ambassador engagement.
  • Address inquiries from current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and the public regarding program-related matters.
  • Uphold the unit and university’s mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives.
  • Maintain program files and electronic databases.
  • Participate in departmental and university committees as needed.
  • Collaborate with staff, faculty, and students to fulfill program and department objectives.
  • Adapt to departmental needs and undertake related duties as assigned. Flexibility in work schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, is required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience in higher education, admissions, marketing, digital media, student affairs, or related fields.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
