About The College

The University Honors Program (UHP) at the University of Cincinnati is seeking a dedicated Assistant Director for Admissions and Marketing to enhance our team. The UHP is committed to fostering student development into global citizen-scholars who are equipped to tackle the complex challenges facing the world. The Assistant Director will play a vital role in realizing this vision by leading the marketing and recruitment efforts aimed at engaging students who are passionate about this mission throughout their undergraduate journey.

The UHP is recognized nationally as a leader in honors education and serves as a flagship academic program at UC. It supports and challenges highly motivated, high-achieving students through an innovative, experience-based pedagogical approach centered on reflective and integrative learning.

Job Overview

This is a two-year position, with the opportunity for permanence. The role encompasses an 80:20 focus split between the University Honors Program and Hoffman Honors Scholars, supporting admissions and marketing initiatives for the UHP. The Assistant Director will oversee recruitment and admissions processes, develop communications strategies, and manage the UHP’s web presence and social media outreach. Additionally, responsibilities include managing the UHP Ambassador program and supporting communications for the Hoffman Honors Scholars across various digital platforms.

Essential Functions

Marketing Communications

  • Oversee the daily management of content for the University Honors Program and Hoffman Honors Scholars websites and social media to enhance audience engagement and improve marketing strategies for prospective and current students.
  • Utilize university communication channels to actively involve faculty, staff, and campus partners in recruitment efforts aimed at supporting programmatic objectives.
  • Spearhead content creation initiatives that align with university and individual program strategic goals to enhance student access, excellence, and retention.
  • Develop, update, and distribute admissions resources, promotional materials, and digital content.
  • Co-manage a team of student assistants tasked with media and design to craft effective communication solutions for both the University Honors Program and Hoffman Honors Scholars.

Admissions Processes

  • Lead the transition application process for current UC students, which involves planning, communication, event coordination, review training, assessment, and strategic outreach.
  • Collaborate with the director to facilitate admissions for first-year, transfer, and UCBA Honors students, as well as related recruitment efforts.
  • Present information regarding UHP and HHS during various admissions events and training sessions, including Open Houses and Admitted Bearcat Days.
  • Participate in admissions committees comprised of assistant and associate directors from various colleges and organizations such as the New Student Enrollment Network and The College Board.
  • Build relationships with college and program partners to bolster recruitment and program initiatives while engaging in outreach to increase the visibility of the University Honors Program and Hoffman Honors Scholars within the university community.
  • Utilize student information systems, including Catalyst, Slate, CART, and the UHP Student Database, to facilitate program operations.

Honors Ambassadors

  • Manage a team of up to 45 UHP Ambassadors, including their recruitment, selection, and training to promote leadership and professional growth.
  • Supervise the Ambassador Leadership Team and ensure the facilitation of pre-approved activities.
  • Mentor and support first-year ambassadors.
  • Oversee ambassador involvement in support of admissions, Gateway to University Honors classes, community events, and additional opportunities.

First-Year Experience

  • Lead and develop pre-sessions for the University Honors Program at Bearcats Bound Orientation.
  • Recruit, train, and assist two student assistants for orientation responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with the Orientation and Admissions office staff to plan event logistics and communication for students and their families.
  • Organize participation and training for UHP staff at Bearcats Bound Orientation.
  • Create presentations, activities, and materials for incoming students and their families.
  • Teach HNRS1010: Gateway to University Honors.
  • Engage in committee work focused on the UHP First-Year Experience.

General Responsibilities

  • Regularly assess program activities, including the transition application process, ambassador involvement, and orientation participation.
  • Address inquiries regarding the program from current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Support the unit and university missions, values, and strategic objectives.
  • Maintain program files and archives, including electronic databases.
  • Serve on departmental and university committees as necessary.
  • Collaborate with staff, faculty, and students to achieve department and program goals.
  • Perform related duties as needed, with the understanding that this job description may evolve over time.
  • Flexibility in work schedule is required, including some evenings and weekends.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s Degree
  • Three years of relevant experience in higher education, admissions, marketing, digital media, student affairs, or similar disciplines
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
