Dow is currently seeking a Senior Health and Safety Technician in Auburn, MI.
The Senior Health & Safety Technician plays a critical role in implementing the Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) management system to meet business objectives and maintain our operational license. You will engage in hands-on environmental, industrial hygiene (IH), and health and safety (H&S) activities within the plant. Full proficiency in various technical, operational, or analytical processes, acquired through job-related training and substantial experience, is essential for this role. Additionally, you will serve as an informal resource for less experienced team members.
Responsibilities include:
– Implementing detailed, task-level EH&S programs by utilizing established processes, standards, and procedures.
– Ensuring that environmental, IH, and H&S considerations are effectively integrated into the operating discipline to achieve EH&S performance goals, often acting as the section owner for relevant areas.
– Serving as the primary resource for EH&S-related procedures, guidelines, and standards at the plant.
– Acting as the plant contact for any Environmental, IH, and H&S inquiries.
– Coaching teams and individuals on EH&S tasks and initiatives.
– Assisting in the development and achievement of area or plant EH&S objectives.
– Ensuring the completion of compliance-related tasks.
– Performing and coordinating specific environmental and IH monitoring, data collection, analysis, and reporting for the plant.
Required qualifications:
– An Associate’s degree or 4+ years of military experience, or a minimum of three years of relevant operational experience with a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
– Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship or support is not available for this position.
Physical demands of the role include, but are not limited to:
– Wearing safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
– Using respirators when necessary.
– Engaging in frequent bending, reaching, and lifting activities.
– Working in confined spaces and climbing stairs/ladders.
– Standing or walking for prolonged periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
– Performing tasks at elevated heights of four feet or more.
Key skills, knowledge, and abilities:
– Proficient in applying software applications with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
– Skilled in Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
– Ability to cultivate strong working relationships with diverse groups while managing varied job duties that demand rapid, accurate decision-making.
– Effective communication skills for engaging with both internal and external stakeholders.
– Organized self-starter, capable of managing multiple priorities while demonstrating sound judgment and adaptability to changing demands.
