The Charter Township of Lyon is seeking a Building Permitting Analyst. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing and maintaining comprehensive building permitting and inspection documents in accordance with the Michigan Building Code 2015 and the Charter Township of Lyon Code of Ordinances. This role requires facilitating the resolution of construction and property-related issues for residents, tenants, contractors, and local businesses. The Building Permitting Analyst will serve as a vital resource for both internal and external inquiries regarding documentation, reports, and data.
This is a full-time position that offers benefits as outlined in the Township’s Personnel Manual. The salary range for this position is $35,000 – $40,000, commensurate with experience.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Producing and maintaining accurate building permitting and inspection documents. The analyst must possess a thorough understanding of construction processes and sequencing to evaluate and verify the completeness and accuracy of permit applications. This expertise is also necessary for scheduling inspections and assisting in the resolution of any failed inspections. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are critical in managing the plan review process. Attention to detail and accuracy are essential for fee calculations and invoicing. Exceptional customer service skills and a strong work ethic are mandatory.
– Deliverables include, but are not limited to:
– Issuing Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing Permits
– Scheduling Inspections and inputting inspection results
– Summarizing, organizing, and distributing the daily inspection schedule
– Facilitating the resolution of construction and property-related issues. The analyst should demonstrate proficiency in problem-solving and possess an understanding of construction processes while effectively communicating with internal departments and external stakeholders. Exceptional customer service skills and a strong work ethic are required. Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Resolving failed inspections
– Managing expired permits
– Addressing resident and contractor complaints
– Providing resources and references for both internal and external requests concerning data, reports, and documentation. This includes, but is not limited to:
– Archiving documentation
– Compiling inspection histories
– Attending meetings as required
– Executing administrative tasks as necessary, including managing phones, mail, filing, and scanning documents.

Education and Experience:
