We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Bus Assistant to join our team immediately. No prior experience is necessary, as comprehensive training will be provided. The starting pay rate is $16.16 per hour, accompanied by a robust benefits package.

The primary responsibility of the School Bus Assistant is to support the safe transportation of students by assisting the bus driver in the management and care of students while on board and during boarding or disembarking from the vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that students enter and exit the bus safely.
  • Adhere to the highest ethical standards and demonstrate personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to a supervisor or manager.
  • Secure students using appropriate restraints, such as seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints.
  • Serve as a positive role model, exemplifying good moral character and a constructive attitude for students.
  • Monitor student behavior and ensure compliance with safety regulations and conduct expectations at all times.
  • Implement effective communication and discipline strategies per company policy.
  • Document and report violations or behavioral concerns to the appropriate authority promptly.
  • Provide physical assistance to passengers in the event of an emergency evacuation from the vehicle.
  • Remind children to take their belongings as they disembark the bus.
  • Assist the driver in maintaining cleanliness and organization within the vehicle’s interior.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and submit it to the appropriate department in a timely manner.
  • Exhibit exemplary ethical behavior and professionalism in interactions with colleagues, supervisors, parents, and school personnel while enhancing the company’s reputation.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
  • Arrive on time for duty and execute all responsibilities safely.
  • Attend all required training, safety sessions, and meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; New York School Bus Assistants must be at least 19 years of age in accordance with state law.
  • Must fulfill physical and medical requirements.
  • Successful completion of all training sessions and attendance at safety meetings is necessary to maintain qualifications.
  • A strong attention to detail and proficiency in using various restraint systems and securing wheelchairs is essential.
  • Ability to connect and engage effectively with children.
  • Capacity to maintain effective behavior management among pupils.
  • High level of professionalism and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and school district personnel.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to physically assist students when required.
