This role is classified as hybrid, requiring the successful candidate to report to Warren, Michigan at least three times a week.
We are seeking a Campus Site Communications Manager to spearhead strategic internal communications, manage change initiatives, and enhance employee engagement across our major employee campuses and laboratories in Southeast Michigan. These locations host a diverse range of engineers, designers, and executives dedicated to achieving our vision of zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion.
In this pivotal role, you will unify communication efforts across GM’s primary Southeast Michigan sites, modernize internal communication channels, content, and processes, and assist employees in navigating their work environments to optimize productivity, engagement, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee communications for office locations in Warren, Pontiac, and Detroit, while managing communications contract support for the Milford Campus and Southeast Michigan Labs.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with site leadership, safety, environmental, facilities, HR/Labor, medical, and security teams.
- Identify, write, and edit a diverse range of internal communications, including campus-wide announcements and articles, for an audience exceeding 30,000 employees.
- Manage multiple internal news sites and their associated internal social networking tools for the non-manufacturing campuses in Southeast Michigan.
- Coordinate all photography, videography, and event requests across campuses, including those involving media, to ensure effective execution.
- Facilitate opportunities such as employee ride-and-drive events, media tours and briefings, leadership meetings, internal recognitions, medical and safety initiatives, and city-related activities that impact the campus.
- Lead communication efforts during crisis situations.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency response communication plans.
- Act as a key member of the Emergency Response Coordination Team, drafting and distributing urgent alerts to campus occupants via GM’s automated notification system.
- Serve as a member of the Safety Review Board, monitoring the safety concerns process and enhancing employee engagement.
- Create strategic communication plans to support business actions and change management initiatives.
- Assist senior executives by coordinating town hall meetings, drafting leader messages, and preparing remarks for various employee events.
- Develop and implement playbooks, templates, and processes to ensure the sharing of best practices across GM’s global campuses.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field.
- A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience managing communications for large employee campuses.
- Proficient storytelling, writing, and editing capabilities with a focus on engaging and relevant employee narratives; capacity to produce concise and conversational copy that aligns with corporate strategic goals and editorial style.
- Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring clarity and accuracy in all communications.
- Strong strategic communications and event planning competencies, including the ability to execute change management initiatives and large-scale events.
- Adaptability to manage multiple high-profile projects and respond to changes on short notice.
- Proven ability to work independently while engaging effectively with colleagues at all levels, from executives to hourly employees.
- Managerial courage to provide constructive feedback and counsel as necessary.
