Job description:
This position involves operating the cash register and electronic scanner to accurately itemize and total customers’ purchases, process payments, and assist with bagging items while delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
– Operate the cash register and electronic scanner to accurately itemize and total customer purchases, which may include a diverse array of products such as dry groceries, frozen foods, dairy, produce, poultry, fish, beef, and pork.
– Process financial transactions, including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons in compliance with company policies.
– Weigh and bag customer purchases carefully and efficiently.
– Maintain proficiency in the use of checkout equipment (registers, scanners, scales, belts) for effective operation.
– Perform front-end duties, including merchandising the checkout area with items such as newspapers, periodicals, and candy.
– Ensure accurate product identification and proper use of PLUs; report any errors in pricing or signage.
– Stay informed about current store programs and product locations to assist customers effectively.
– Communicate company programs (e.g., loyalty programs, in-store specials, and discounts) to customers while exemplifying high service standards for an optimal customer experience.
– Adhere to company policies regarding security, cash handling, product management (including damaged or spoiled items), and the sale of alcohol and tobacco.
– Maintain a clean and well-stocked department while complying with safety and sanitation standards.
– Assist with stocking items as necessary.
– Follow all personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety guidelines along with food safety and cleaning expectations.
– Adhere to customer experience guidelines and be open to assigned tasks in various departments to enhance customer service.
– Additional duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications:
– High school diploma or GED (preferred).
– One year of prior retail or related experience preferred.
– Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact courteously and effectively with customers.
– Excellent customer service and organizational skills; attention to detail is essential.
– Basic competencies in reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Physical Requirements:
