JOB SUMMARY
The successful candidate will oversee social events and local corporate catering opportunities that exceed the scope of the Group Sales teams and are directed to the property directly (e.g., events with 150 attendees or more). This role involves negotiating contracts, closing local catering and social business, and ensuring the efficient and timely turnover of this business to guarantee high-quality service delivery. The individual will strive to meet catering revenue targets by actively promoting and upselling all business opportunities to optimize revenue generation. They will implement the brand’s service strategies and relevant initiatives throughout the sales process, fostering customer loyalty by consistently delivering outstanding service experiences.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required:
- High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 2 years of experience in sales and marketing, guest services, front desk operations, or a related field.
OR
- An associate degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related discipline; no prior work experience is necessary.
Preferred:
- Experience in catering sales is highly desirable.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
Managing Sales Activities
- Manage social and local corporate catering opportunities that fall outside the Group Sales teams’ parameters, aimed directly at the property (e.g., events with 150 attendees or more).
- Oversee the property’s sales initiatives related to local corporate and social catering.
- Respond promptly to incoming catering inquiries, qualifying and soliciting new catering business to meet personal and property revenue goals.
- Actively solicit affiliate business connected to citywide events from an approved affiliate list provided by the Citywide Sales Executive.
- Assess the broader market landscape, understanding competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, and supply and demand dynamics to inform sales strategies.
- Close business opportunities that align with market conditions and property objectives.
- Utilize negotiation skills and innovative sales techniques to finalize contracts and close business.
- Collaborate with the management team to develop and execute a catering sales plan that addresses revenue, customer needs, and market engagement.
- Design and promote creative catered events, maximizing revenue through upselling packages and innovative food and beverage options.
- Oversee catering sales revenue and operational budgets while providing forecasting reports.
- Create appealing menus that drive sales performance.
- Contribute to the development, execution, and assessment of catering promotions.
- Uphold Marriott’s Customer Service Standards and the property’s Brand Standards throughout all sales processes.
- Manage the operational aspects of booked events, including generating proposals, drafting contracts, and maintaining customer correspondence.
- Participate in and reinforce the brand’s daily service basics to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Ensure a seamless transition from sales to operations and back, while consistently providing a high level of service.
- Address guest issues related to the sales process by establishing mechanisms for escalation to property leadership and relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor performance metrics including revenue growth, expense control, and return on investment to maximize profitability for both the owner and Marriott International.
- Finalize contracts for local catering and social events, ensuring all business is transitioned smoothly for quality service delivery.
- Achieve catering revenue targets through proactive upselling of business opportunities.
Building Successful Relationships
- Collaborate effectively with off-property sales channels (including Group Sales within the Sales Office, Area Sales, and the Enterprise Sales Team) to ensure coordinated and complementary sales efforts.
- Foster interactions with sales, kitchen staff, vendors, competitors, the local community, catering associations, and other hotel departments to maintain high levels of guest satisfaction.
- Deliver exemplary customer service to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty, ensuring client needs are met before and during events.
- Proactively understand customer needs and recommend appropriate features and services to exceed expectations, building lasting relationships with Marriott.
- Gain insights into the property’s primary target demographic and service expectations, working closely with operations to implement strategies effectively.
The hourly pay range for this position is $25.96 to $32.21.
