Position Purpose:
As a food and food service delivery driver, you will play a vital role in the nation’s food supply chain. Your responsibilities will encompass ensuring the timely and safe delivery of products to our customers, all while representing our company and establishing lasting relationships. The driver will operate a tractor-trailer or straight truck on various routes—intrastate and interstate, over-the-road (OTR), as well as shuttle and overnight drives—while adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Professionally communicate and interact with customers, vendors, and colleagues to ensure timely and accurate responses to inquiries.
– Collaborate as a team member within the department and organization, undertaking additional duties as assigned to enhance company service.
– Conduct all necessary safety checks (e.g., pre/post-trip inspections) of the tractor/truck and trailer in compliance with DOT regulations, ensuring adherence to company safety standards and taking appropriate actions when necessary.
– Report any safety issues and repair needs promptly.
– Follow all DOT regulations and company driving safety policies.
– Immediately report safety hazards and inspect trailers to ensure properly loaded and secured freight.
– Conduct item count checks and verify customer invoices for loaded products.
– Accurately complete all required paperwork related to freight in a clear manner.
– Maneuver the tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as needed.
– Drive to and deliver customer orders per the predetermined delivery schedule.
– Unload products from the trailer and transport items to designated customer storage areas.
– Perform damage control checks on items, scanning products and coordinating with supervisors for order removals according to company policy.
– Confirm delivery with customers and secure required signatures.
– Collect payments (cash or checks) as needed, and load customer returns onto the trailer while securing the trailer doors.
– Ensure that the tractor, trailer, and freight remain locked and secure at all times.
– Unload damaged goods and customer returns, bringing them to driver check-in and completing necessary paperwork; also unload all equipment and materials and remove trash from trailers as required.
– Maintain accurate daily records of hours of service and log entries in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
– Perform general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and maintain cleanliness in trailers as required.
– Secure all equipment and complete necessary paperwork at the end of each shift.
– Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
– Minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
– High school diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent.
– Valid CDL A license.
– Meet all necessary state licensing and/or certification requirements (as applicable).
– Must be at least 21 years of age.
– Maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
– Pass a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
– Successfully complete a road test.
– Possess a valid and current DOT Health Card, or be able to secure a new one.
– Must be capable of hand-lifting and utilizing a two-wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and stack product cases of varying sizes and weights (generally between 10-35 pounds and occasionally up to 60-90 pounds, depending on location).
