Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a pivotal role in the nation’s food supply chain. Our drivers ensure that customer products arrive at their designated locations punctually and in excellent condition, serving as the face of our company and fostering enduring relationships with our clients.
The driver is responsible for operating a tractor trailer or straight truck for intrastate and interstate deliveries on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes, ensuring the safe and timely delivery and unloading of food and related products in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Engage with customers, vendors, and co-workers in a professional manner, ensuring accurate and timely responses to inquiries.
- Collaborate as a team member within the department and organization, effectively performing any assigned duties to best serve the company.
- Conduct all required safety checks, including pre/post trip inspections of the tractor/truck and trailer, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards, and taking appropriate actions as necessary.
- Report all safety issues and required repairs immediately.
- Adhere to all DOT regulations and company driving safety policies.
- Promptly report any safety hazards and ensure that trailers are inspected for properly loaded and secured freight.
- Perform inventory checks of items and verify customer invoices for loaded products.
- Accurately complete all required paperwork associated with freight in a legible manner.
- Maneuver the tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as necessary.
- Navigate to deliver customer orders according to a predetermined route schedule.
- Unload products from the trailer and transport them to designated storage areas at the customer’s location.
- Conduct damage control checks on items, scan products, and notify supervisors about any order removals in line with company policy.
- Confirm delivery of items with customers and obtain necessary signatures.
- Collect payment (cash or checks) when required; load customer returns onto the trailer and secure the trailer doors.
- Ensure that the tractor, trailer, and freight remain appropriately locked and secured at all times.
- Manage damaged goods and customer returns by bringing them to the driver check-in and completing necessary documentation. Remove all equipment, materials, and trash from trailers as required.
- Maintain a daily record of hours of service and logging in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company regulations.
- Undertake general housekeeping duties for the tractor, loading dock area, and ensure that trailers remain clean and clear as needed.
- At the end of each shift, secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
- High school diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent.
- Valid CDL A license.
- Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements (where applicable).
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
- Successful completion of post-offer drug testing and criminal background checks.
- Passing of a road test.
- Valid current DOT Health Card or eligibility to obtain one.
- Capable of hand-lifting and utilizing two-wheelers, lift gates, and other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights, generally ranging between 10-35 pounds and up to approximately 60-90 pounds depending on the location.
