Position Details:
- Compensation begins at $27 per hour, along with a $7,000 Sign-On Bonus.
- This role is for a full-time company driver.
- The position requires a night shift, with dispatch occurring between 2 PM and 7 PM.
- Drivers will have daily home routes.
Purpose:
As a Food and Food Service Delivery Driver, you play a vital role in the country’s food supply chain. Our delivery drivers are responsible for ensuring that customer products arrive at their destinations punctually and in optimal condition. You also represent our company, forging valuable relationships with our clients.
The Hourly CDL-A Driver is tasked with operating a tractor-trailer or straight truck for intrastate and interstate deliveries, spanning local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. Deliveries must be executed safely and timely, in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The position involves professional interaction with customers, vendors, and co-workers while addressing inquiries accurately and in a timely manner. The driver must function effectively as a team member within the organization and perform duties assigned to best serve the company.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting required safety checks (pre/post-trip) and inspections of the tractor/truck and trailer, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards, and taking appropriate actions as necessary. Reporting safety issues and required repairs is essential.
- Adhering to all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies.
- Promptly reporting all safety hazards and inspecting trailers for properly loaded and secured freight.
- Performing count checks of items and verifying customer invoices for loaded products. Completing all required paperwork related to freight accurately and legibly.
- Moving the tractor to the loading dock and attaching preloaded trailers when necessary.
- Driving to deliver customer orders following a predetermined route delivery schedule, unloading products from trailers, and transporting items to designated customer storage areas.
- Conducting damage control checks, scanning items, and communicating with supervisors regarding order removals per company policy. Verifying item delivery with customers and obtaining necessary signatures, as well as collecting payments (cash or checks) when applicable.
- Loading customer returns onto the trailer and securing trailer doors, ensuring that all equipment is appropriately locked and secured.
- Unloading damaged goods and customer returns, completing necessary paperwork and clearing trailers of equipment and materials as required.
- Maintaining daily records of hours of service and complying with Federal DOT and company requirements.
- Performing general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and ensuring trailers are kept clean. Securing all equipment and completing necessary paperwork at the end of each shift.
- Carrying out other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of tractor-trailer driving experience.
- Valid CDL-A license.
- Compliance with all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
- Ability to pass post-offer drug testing and a criminal background check.
- Successful completion of a road test.
- Possession of a valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure a new DOT Health Card.
- Capability to hand-lift and utilize a two-wheeler, lift gate, or other equipment to manage product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift. Products typically range from 10-35 pounds, with some items reaching between approximately 60 and 90 pounds, depending on the location.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Over 1 year of experience in the foodservice distribution industry.
- Familiarity with onboard computer and electronic log systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
- Experience using hand-held point of delivery scanning systems (e.g., POD).
- Background in customer service-related roles.
