Position Purpose:
As a Food Delivery Driver, you will play an essential role in maintaining the integrity of the country’s food supply chain. You will ensure timely and safe delivery of products, acting as the face of our company and building lasting relationships with our customers. Your responsibilities will encompass driving a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries, all while adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Engage with customers, vendors, and colleagues in a professional manner, ensuring timely and accurate responses to inquiries.
- Collaborate as a team member within the department and organization, completing various duties to serve the company effectively.
- Conduct all necessary safety inspections (pre and post-trip) of the tractor/truck and trailer in compliance with DOT regulations, taking corrective action as needed to meet company safety standards.
- Log all safety issues and required repairs promptly.
- Comply with all DOT regulations and company safety guidelines while driving.
- Report any safety hazards immediately and inspect trailers to ensure proper loading and securing of freight.
- Perform inventory checks and verify customer invoices for loaded products.
- Accurately complete and maintain all necessary paperwork related to freight transactions.
- Maneuver the tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as required.
- Deliver customer orders according to established delivery schedules and routes.
- Unload products from the trailer and transport them to designated customer storage areas.
- Conduct damage control checks, scan items, and communicate with supervisors about order removals per company policy.
- Confirm item deliveries with customers and collect required signatures.
- Collect payments (cash or checks) when necessary and load customer returns onto the trailer, securing the trailer doors.
- Ensure that the tractor, trailer, and freight are secured and locked appropriately at all times.
- Handle all damaged goods and customer returns, completing necessary paperwork as required.
- Maintain accurate daily records of hours of service and enter logs in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
- Perform general housekeeping duties in the tractor and loading dock area, ensuring trailers are kept clean.
- At the end of each shift, secure all equipment and complete required paperwork.
- Undertake additional related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
- High school diploma, GED, or state-approved equivalent.
- Valid CDL A license.
- Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements (where applicable).
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- A clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
- Successful completion of a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
- Ability to pass a road test.
- Valid current DOT Health Card or the capability to obtain a new DOT Health Card.
- Capable of hand-lifting and utilizing resources such as a two-wheeler, lift gate, and other equipment to handle product cases and freight ranging from 10 to 90 pounds, depending on the location.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Over one year of commercial driving experience.
- Experience in the foodservice distribution industry.
- Familiarity with onboard computer systems and electronic log systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
- Experience with handheld point-of-delivery scanning systems (e.g., POD).
- Background in customer service-related roles.
