Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a vital role in maintaining the nation’s food supply chain. Our delivery drivers ensure that customers receive their products in a timely and safe manner, while also serving as the face of our company and fostering enduring relationships with our clientele. The driver is responsible for operating a tractor trailer or straight truck for intrastate and interstate deliveries, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. This role requires adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations to safely deliver and unload food and related products.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and coworkers, providing accurate and timely responses to inquiries.
– Collaborate as a team member and perform assigned duties to best serve the organization.
– Conduct all required safety checks (e.g., pre/post trip inspections) of the tractor/truck and trailer in accordance with DOT regulations to ensure compliance with company safety standards, taking appropriate action as necessary.
– Report any safety concerns or required repairs.
– Adhere to all DOT regulations and company safe driving practices.
– Promptly report safety hazards and ensure proper loading and securing of freight in the trailer.
– Conduct count checks of items and verify customer invoices for loaded products.
– Accurately complete all required paperwork related to the freight.
– Maneuver the tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as needed.
– Follow the predetermined delivery schedule and execute customer orders efficiently.
– Unload products and transport them to designated storage areas within customer facilities.
– Perform damage control checks on items, scan products, and communicate with the supervisor regarding order removals per company policy.
– Confirm delivery with the customer and obtain necessary signatures.
– Collect payments (cash or checks) as required, loading any customer returns onto the trailer and securing the trailer doors.
– Ensure that the tractor, trailer, and freight are securely locked at all times.
– Handle damaged goods and customer returns according to procedures, completing necessary paperwork and removing debris from trailers as needed.
– Maintain accurate daily logs of service hours in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company protocols.
– Perform general housekeeping duties within the tractor and loading dock area, keeping trailers clean and orderly.
– At the conclusion of each shift, ensure all equipment is secured and complete any outstanding paperwork.
– Undertake other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
– A minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
– High school diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent.
– Valid CDL A license.
– Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements (where applicable).
– Minimum age of 21 years.
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
– Successful completion of a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
– Passing score on a road test.
– Valid and current DOT Health Card, or the ability to obtain one.
– Capability to hand-lift and utilize a two-wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and stack product cases or freight of varying sizes and weights. Products typically range from 10-35 pounds, with some items weighing between approximately 60 and 90 pounds, depending on the location.
