Position Purpose:
As a vital part of the nation’s food supply chain, food and food service delivery drivers play a crucial role. Our drivers ensure timely and safe delivery of customer products, while also serving as the face of our company, fostering long-term relationships with customers. The driver is responsible for operating a tractor trailer or straight truck on varied routes—including intrastate and interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries—ensuring that food and food-related products are delivered and unloaded in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Engage professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
  • Collaborate effectively as part of a team and undertake any assigned duties that serve the interests of the company.
  • Conduct all mandatory safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) and inspect the vehicle to ensure compliance with DOT and company safety standards; take appropriate actions as required.
  • Report any safety concerns or necessary repairs immediately.
  • Adhere to all DOT regulations and company driving policies.
  • Promptly report any safety hazards and inspect the trailer for secure loading of freight.
  • Verify item counts and customer invoices for loaded products.
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork associated with freight.
  • Maneuver the tractor to the loading dock and connect to preloaded trailers as necessary.
  • Follow predetermined delivery routes to efficiently deliver customer orders.
  • Unload products and transport them to designated storage areas at customer locations.
  • Perform quality control checks on delivered items and consult a supervisor regarding any issues, adhering to company policy for order removals.
  • Confirm delivery with customers and secure appropriate signatures.
  • Collect payment as needed (cash or checks) and load customer returns onto the trailer, ensuring all trailer doors are secured.
  • Ensure that the tractor, trailer, and freight are consistently locked and secure.
  • Handle damaged goods and customer returns by bringing them to the driver check-in and completing necessary documentation; unload all equipment and dispose of trash from trailers as required.
  • Maintain a daily record of hours of service and log them following Federal DOT, state, and company criteria.
  • Execute general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clear and clean as needed.
  • At the shift’s conclusion, secure all equipment and complete any remaining paperwork.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
  • High school diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent.
  • A valid CDL A license.
  • Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements (where applicable).
  • Candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
  • A clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years is necessary.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
  • Passing scores on the road test are required.
  • Valid, current DOT Health Card, or the ability to secure a new one.
  • Ability to hand-lift and use two-wheelers, lift gates, or other equipment to move and stack product cases or freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift, typically ranging from 10-35 pounds and up to approximately 60-90 pounds, depending on the location.
