Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a vital role in the nation’s food supply chain. They ensure that customer orders are delivered on schedule and in optimal condition, serving as the face of our company and fostering lasting customer relationships. Drivers are responsible for operating a tractor-trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries, while adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Engage with customers, vendors, and colleagues professionally, ensuring timely and accurate responses to inquiries.
– Collaborate effectively as a team member and fulfill any assigned duties that support company objectives.
– Conduct all required safety checks (e.g., pre/post trip inspections) of the tractor/truck and trailer in compliance with DOT regulations, ensuring they meet company safety standards.
– Report any safety concerns or necessary repairs.
– Adhere to all DOT regulations and company guidelines for safe driving practices.
– Promptly report safety hazards and inspect trailers for properly loaded and secured freight.
– Perform item count checks and verify customer invoices for loaded products.
– Accurately complete all required paperwork related to freight in a legible manner.
– Maneuver the tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as necessary.
– Drive along predetermined routes to deliver customer orders.
– Unload products from the trailer and transport them to designated storage areas at customer locations.
– Conduct damage control checks on items, scan products, and communicate with supervisors regarding any removals according to company policy.
– Confirm delivery with customers and obtain appropriate signatures.
– Collect payments (cash or checks) when required, secure customer returns in the trailer, and lock trailer doors.
– Ensure the tractor, trailer, and freight are secured appropriately at all times.
– Process damaged goods and customer returns and complete the necessary paperwork; unload equipment, materials, and remove trash from trailers as needed.
– Maintain a daily record of hours of service in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
– Perform general housekeeping tasks in the tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clean and organized.
– Secure equipment at the end of shifts and complete all required paperwork.
– Undertake additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
– A minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
– High school diploma/GED or an equivalent state-approved certification.
– Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL A).
– Compliance with all state licensing and/or certification requirements (when applicable).
– Minimum age requirement of 21 years.
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
– Successful completion of a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
– Passing of a road test.
– Valid current DOT Health Card or the ability to obtain a new one.
– Ability to hand-lift and utilize equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift, typically ranging from 10 to 35 pounds, and up to 90 pounds, depending on the location.
