Position Purpose:

Food and food service delivery drivers play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the country’s food supply chain. Our drivers ensure timely and safe delivery of customers’ products while representing our company and building lasting relationships with our clientele.

The Hourly CDL-A Driver is responsible for operating a tractor trailer or straight truck to deliver and/or unload food and related products. This includes adhering to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and maintaining professional interactions with customers, vendors, and co-workers. Team collaboration and a willingness to perform any required duties to serve the company are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all necessary safety checks (e.g., pre/post-trip) and inspections of the tractor/truck and trailer in compliance with DOT regulations. Address any safety issues and report required repairs.
  • Adhere to all DOT regulations alongside company driving guidelines and policies.
  • Report safety hazards immediately and ensure freight is properly loaded and secured.
  • Perform a count check of items and accurately complete all required paperwork related to freight.
  • Navigate the tractor to the loading dock and attach the preloaded trailer as necessary.
  • Execute deliveries according to a predetermined route, unloading products into designated customer storage areas.
  • Conduct damage assessments on items and report any issues to the supervisor. Verify item deliveries and obtain necessary customer signatures, as well as collect payment when required.
  • Manage returns by loading them onto the trailer and securing the trailer doors.
  • Handle any unfit goods or customer returns by delivering them to the driver check-in and completing required paperwork. Ensure the cleanliness of trailers and remove trash as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of service hours and complete logs per Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties within the tractor, loading dock area, and ensure trailers are kept clean and organized at day’s end. Secure all equipment and complete necessary documentation before concluding the shift.
  • Undertake other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6 months of commercial driving experience.
  • Valid CDL-A license.
  • Compliance with all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
  • Ability to pass a road test.
  • Possession of a valid DOT Health Card or the capability to secure one.
  • Capacity to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight, typically ranging from 10-35 pounds and up to 60-90 pounds, depending on the specific location.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the foodservice distribution industry.
  • Familiarity with onboard computer and electronic log systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
