Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play an integral role in maintaining the country’s food supply chain. They ensure timely and safe delivery of products, serving as the face of our company and building lasting relationships with customers. The driver is responsible for operating a tractor-trailer or straight truck on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes, delivering and unloading food and related products in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Communicate and interact with customers, vendors, and coworkers professionally, providing accurate and timely responses to inquiries.
– Collaborate as a team member within the department and organization, performing assigned duties to best serve the company.
– Conduct required safety checks (including pre/post trip inspections) of tractor/truck and trailer to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
– Report all safety-related issues and necessary repairs.
– Adhere to all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines.
– Promptly report all safety hazards, ensuring trailers are loaded and secured appropriately.
– Verify and check the quantity of items and customer invoices for loaded products.
– Complete all required paperwork related to freight accurately and legibly.
– Move the tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as needed.
– Drive to and make customer deliveries according to a predetermined route schedule.
– Unload products and transport them to designated customer storage areas.
– Perform quality checks on items, scan them, and report any damaged orders in accordance with company policy.
– Confirm delivery of items with customers and obtain necessary signatures.
– Collect payments (cash or checks) as required and secure customer returns in the trailer.
– Ensure that the tractor, trailer, and freight are securely locked at all times.
– Unload damaged goods and customer returns, complete necessary paperwork, and clear trailers of equipment and trash as required.
– Maintain accurate daily records of hours of service and log entries per Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
– Carry out general housekeeping duties within the tractor, loading dock area, and trailers as needed.
– Secure all equipment and finalize all paperwork at the end of each shift.
– Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
– A minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
– High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent state-approved certification.
– Valid CDL A license.
– Compliance with all State licensing and certification requirements (where applicable).
– Must be at least 21 years of age.
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
– Ability to successfully pass post-offer drug tests and criminal background checks.
– Successful completion of a road test.
– Valid current DOT Health Card, or ability to obtain one.
– Capable of hand-lifting and utilizing a two-wheeler, lift gate, or other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of various sizes and weights throughout the shift; items typically range from 10 to 35 pounds, with some items approaching 60 to 90 pounds depending on location.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience with onboard computers and electronic log systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
– Familiarity with hand-held point-of-delivery scanning systems (e.g., POD).
– Background in customer service-related roles.
