Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a vital role in the nation’s food supply chain. Our delivery drivers ensure that customers receive their products on time and in optimal condition while representing our company and building positive, lasting relationships with our clients.
The driver is responsible for operating a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop routes. This involves delivering and unloading food and related products safely and efficiently, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Engage professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring timely and accurate responses to inquiries.
– Collaborate with team members within the department and organization to fulfill any assigned duties that best serve the company.
– Conduct all required safety checks (e.g., pre/post-trip), ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards; address any issues as necessary.
– Report safety concerns and document necessary repairs.
– Adhere to all DOT regulations and company driving guidelines and policies.
– Immediately address any safety hazards and verify that trailer loads are secure.
– Perform count checks of items and review customer invoices for loaded products.
– Accurately complete all required paperwork related to freight in a clear and legible manner.
– Move the tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as needed.
– Deliver customer orders following a predetermined route delivery schedule.
– Unload products from the trailer and transport them to designated customer storage areas.
– Inspect items for damage, scan products, and inform the supervisor about any orders that need to be removed per company policy.
– Confirm delivery with customers and obtain proper signatures.
– Collect payment (cash or checks) as required, securely load customer returns onto the trailer, and ensure trailer doors are secured.
– Ensure that all equipment, including the tractor, trailer, and freight, are properly locked and secured at all times.
– Handle damaged goods and customer returns according to procedures, complete the necessary paperwork, and ensure the trailer is cleared of all equipment, materials, and trash as required.
– Maintain a daily record of hours of service in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
– Carry out general housekeeping duties within the tractor and loading dock area, ensuring cleanliness and order in the trailers.
– At the end of each shift, secure all equipment and complete requisite paperwork.
– Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
– A minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience
– High school diploma, GED, or state-approved equivalent
– Valid CDL A license
– Compliance with all state licensing and/or certification requirements (if applicable)
– Minimum age of 21 years
– A clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years
– Ability to pass a post-offer drug test and criminal background check
– Successful completion of a road test
– Valid current DOT Health Card, or the ability to secure one
– Capable of manually lifting and utilizing equipment such as a two-wheeler or lift gate to manage product cases and freight weighing between 10-90 pounds, depending on the location
Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience with onboard computer and electronic log systems, such as PeopleNet
– Familiarity with handheld point-of-delivery scanning systems
– Previous customer service-related experience
