Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a crucial role in the nation’s food supply chain. Our delivery drivers ensure that customers receive their products at the scheduled times and in optimal condition, serving as the face of our company and cultivating enduring relationships with our clients.
Drivers are responsible for operating a tractor-trailer or straight truck for intrastate and interstate deliveries, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. They deliver and/or unload food and related products to customers safely and punctually, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Communicate and interact professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring that inquiries are addressed accurately and promptly.
– Collaborate as a team member within the department and organization, performing various duties as required to effectively serve the company.
– Conduct all necessary safety checks, including pre/post trip inspections of the tractor/truck and trailer, in compliance with DOT regulations, and take appropriate actions to maintain company safety standards.
– Report any safety issues or required repairs immediately.
– Adhere to all DOT regulations and company driving guidelines and policies, promptly reporting any safety hazards.
– Inspect trailers to ensure proper loading and securement of freight.
– Perform count checks of items loaded and verify customer invoices.
– Accurately complete all required paperwork related to freight.
– Move tractors to loading docks and attach preloaded trailers as necessary.
– Deliver customer orders as per the predetermined route and delivery schedule.
– Unload products from trailers and transport them to designated storage areas at customer locations.
– Conduct damage control checks on items, using scanning tools, and communicate with supervisors regarding any orders that require removal per company policy.
– Confirm delivery of items with customers and obtain appropriate signatures.
– Collect payments (cash or checks) where applicable and secure returned items in the trailer appropriately.
– Ensure that the tractor, trailer, and freight remain locked and secured at all times.
– Offload damaged goods and returns, completing necessary paperwork, and dispose of trash while also unloading equipment and materials as required.
– Maintain accurate daily records of hours of service in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company regulations.
– Perform general housekeeping duties within the tractor and loading dock area, ensuring trailers are kept clean and organized as required.
– At the conclusion of the shift, secure all equipment and finalize all essential paperwork.
– Execute additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
– A minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
– High school diploma, GED, or state-approved equivalent.
– Valid CDL A license.
– Compliance with all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
– Must be at least 21 years of age.
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
– Successful completion of post-offer drug tests and criminal background checks.
– Passing of a road test.
– Valid current DOT Health Card or eligibility to obtain a new card.
– Ability to hand-lift and use equipment such as two-wheelers, lift gates, and other devices to maneuver and stack product cases/freight of variable sizes and weights; products generally range between 10-35 pounds and can reach 60-90 pounds depending on location.
