Full-Time Chef
Salary Range: $58,000 to $60,000

As a caregiver, you assume the responsibility of delivering quality care and service to those in need, adhering to the standards set forth by our living center as you fulfill your duties.
Position Overview:
The Chef holds overarching responsibility for delivering a high-quality dining service that reflects resident preferences and dietary needs, while adhering to all applicable food safety and licensing regulations. This role involves maintaining a clean kitchen and implementing safe food handling and storage practices, as well as providing strong leadership for the culinary team.
Qualifications:
- Culinary degree from an accredited culinary institute or program, or equivalent experience in restaurant/food and beverage management; substantial experience in food service and sanitation is acceptable.
- Valid Food Protection Manager and HACCP Certification in food service safety and sanitation (e.g., ServSafe).
- Knowledge of geriatric dietary requirements, menu planning, and kitchen management.
- Strong leadership and motivational capabilities for effective staff supervision and training.
- Excellent culinary skills, with prior experience in catering or culinary services management preferred.
- Proficiency in adjusting ingredient measurements for recipes and strong organizational skills to ensure timely meal preparation and service.
- Awareness of food storage and handling guidelines to prevent contamination or spoilage.
- Ability to pass state-mandated criminal background screening and random drug testing.
Key Responsibilities:

Menu Planning:
- Design menus that consider resident preferences, including dietary restrictions, and incorporate seasonal, fresh ingredients.
- Ensure inventory is maintained for at least three days of meal service, along with emergency supplies.
- Utilize herbs from the Live Herb Wall where applicable.

Meal Service:
- Ensure meals are prepared and served punctually and at the appropriate temperatures.
- Establish and sustain standardized recipes and production standards; oversee special events such as family functions and community lunches.
- Educate staff on proper meal service techniques and actively engage with residents during meal times.

Resident Satisfaction:
- Actively monitor and cater to resident preferences, offering alternative selections when necessary.
- Conduct regular meetings with residents to discuss their preferences and lead monthly Chef Forum discussions for feedback on the dining experience.

Resident Well-Being:
- Collaborate in the resident assessment process, ensuring nutritional requirements are met and diet orders are followed.
- Communicate any changes in residents’ food consumption patterns with the Resident Services Coordinator to address any nutritional challenges.

Financial Management:
- Adhere to budgetary guidelines for food, beverages, and supplies while managing inventory effectively.
- Track meal service for billing purposes and ensure cost-effective procurement of supplies.

Human Resources:
- Recruit, train, and supervise culinary staff to ensure quality meal preparation and service.
- Manage staff scheduling and monitor labor hours to maintain operational efficiency and control overtime.

Sanitation and Compliance:
- Uphold all cleanliness standards in the kitchen, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Monitor staff training in sanitation practices and maintain supplies for single-use meal service items.

Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to HFA rules, HPM policies, County Health Department guidelines, and SERVSAFE standards.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain the Live Herb Wall and participate in various outreach marketing events.
- Deliver exceptional service at community and family events, and take part in the evening and weekend Manager on Duty rotation.
Secondary Functions:
- Collaborate on special events and engage in at least one resident enrichment activity monthly.
- Maintain organized and safe workspaces and uphold professional communication standards.
- Adhere to internal policies regarding resident rights, privacy, and workplace conduct.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to work with varying temperatures, strong odors, and chemicals.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
- Emotional resilience to manage the complexities associated with resident care.
